BELTANE CRAFTS
To make a magick mirror, you need:
An 8X10 photo frame with a removable back
Black high-gloss paint (not aerosol spray)
Dried and *powdered* psychic-enhancing herbs: hyssop,
dragon's blood reed, orris root, anise seed, and any variety of dried moss.
A disposable mixing container
A paintbrush
Collect the items during the waning phase. Mix
paint and herbs together until you have a thick, tar-like substance. Here's
a chant while mixing:
"Vision of night, By the moon's dark
light, Enter my art! All evil
depart!"
As you chant, imagine moonbeams entering the paint
through your hands .
Paint one side of the glass with
the paint-herb mixture using long, straight strokes. Cover one surface completely,
leaving no holes.
When dry, re-assemble with painted side down (the unpainted,
shiny part shows through the frame).
Many people don't go to all this trouble.
They simply spray paint the back of a frame glass with black enamel. Just
depends on what you want to do.
Black Bowls
Simple tools like the black bowl or cauldron are
very effective for scrying. Simply pour water in a black bowl or cauldron
and scry the surface of the water.
Try painting symbols on the outside
of a black bowl or make our own out of pottery clay. The advantage of the
clay bowl is that we can inscribe and paint the bowl prior to firing it.
Make and consecrate the bowl during the moon's 4th quarter.
Add decorations
like shells, stones, feathers, mirror pieces and the like around the outside
rim.
Instructions to make sacred divination water for
the black bowl.
Moon Phase: 3rd quarter
Items needed:
Dried herbs -- rose petals, sea salt, jasmine, and hyssop.
A large clear bottle or jar.
In a separate bowl, mix together the herbs. Add
one part herb mixture to four parts water. Stir in 3 teaspoons of sea salt.
Pour mixture into the jar, cover, and place in a sunny spot.
Leave undisturbed
until the last night of the 4th quarter of the waning moon so both moon
and sun energy will blend with herbs and water. Watch it throughout its
distillation. If
the water level drops, you can add another one-half to three-quarters cup
of water.
Strain herbs and store water in a lidded container until use.
The water will look like tea.
Animal Guide Totems
Materials:
A sheet of construction paper plastic spoon small water-based paint set
markers paper towel tube glue
Fold the sheet of paper in half, and have the child drop spots of paint along the fold with the spoon.
Fold the paper, lay it flat, and gently rub it. Re-open the paper and have
the child tell you all about the animals, fish, and birds that they see in
the paint blots.
When the paint dries, help the child outline these creatures
with the markers. Cut out and around the blot characters and glue to the
paper towel tube to make the totem stand upright.
