Article I - Departments and Committees

Section 1 - Purpose

1.1 Departments will serve as a general meeting among the Commissioner and those Chairmen heading Committees under said Department in order to promote legislation, offer solutions to university problems, and to discuss ideas concerning their Departmental area.

1.2 Standing Committees shall be established within each Department to deal with more specific issues within that Department.

Section 2 - Commissioners

2.1 A Commissioner of each Department shall be nominated by the Senate on the last meeting of the academic year with the approval of the Senate. His/her term shall last one academic year.

2.2 To be nominated as a Commissioner, one must be a Senator currently serving on the SGA Senate.

2.3 The duties of the Commissioner shall be to:

     2.3.1 Hold Department meetings at least twice a month

     2.3.2 Oversee that all Committees are performing their duties as
     outlined in the by-laws. This necessitates that the Commissioner be
     present at all Committee meetings

     2.3.3 Provide ideas to all Chairmen dealing with that Department's
     area of concern

      2.3.4 Insure that his/her Department completes at least two projects
     each semester

     2.3.5 Shall give a report at the Senate meetings, or a designee should
     the Commissioner be unable to attend a meeting

2.4 Failure of a Commissioner to perform stated duties shall be considered malfeasance of office.

2.5 Should a Commissioner be unable to complete his/her term, an interim Commissioner shall be nominated and approved by the Senate.

Section 3 - Organization

3.1 The following departments shall be permanent: Academic Affairs, External Affairs, Fiscal Affairs, Internal Affairs, and Student Affairs.

3.2 Standing Committees shall be established as outlined within each Department by the Commissioner of said Department on the second Department meeting of each semester. Chairmen must be selected within three weeks of the first official SGA Senate meeting.

     3.2.1 Each Committee Chairman shall be appointed by the
     Commissioner of the Department over said Committee with majority
     approval of the Department members unless otherwise stated in the
     By-laws.

     3.2.2 A Committee Chairman's term shall last one academic year.

     3.2.3 A member of one Department cannot serve as Chairman of
     two or more Committees under that Department

     3.2.4 Members of Committees shall be any full time student that
     chooses to become one unless otherwise stated in the By-laws.

3.3 The voting members of a Department shall be only those acting as Chairmen of Committees under said Department. All members of Committees are members of the Department.

3.4 The President of the SGA will have the authority to create such temporary Departments or Committees as he/she deems necessary with the approval of the Senate.
