News and Achievements

- The sociology department has a new secretary- Gloriana Russell. Gloriana joined the Department in November - she also studies design at Parsons

- Verónica Perera (recipient of a student TCDS award) also presented a paper on "The Postmodernist Critique of the Subject and Some Implications for Feminism" at the New School University Women in Political Studies Interdisciplinary Conference, Celebrating the International Women's Day, March 8, 2001.

- Eiko Ikegami, a Sociology Facultymember, was last fall awarded a fellowship with the Public Library Writers and Scholars Program

- Martin Plot- a PhD candidate at the Sociology Department recently presented a paper at an April conference on 'Politics and Vision in Latin America'. He will also be publishing an article in the forthcoming edition of the 'Constellations' journal.

- Prudence Stone, outgoing sociology student advisor for 2000-20001 presented two papers this semester; speaking on 'The Political Economy of Information' at the recent New School 'Media Studies' conference and presenting 'Culture as Passage' at the Eastern Sociological Society' in Pittsburgh.
