Baron is the Seeing Eye dog of Naomi Soule of St. Louis, Missouri. He is a Black Labrador Retriever. This is the first Seeing Eye Dog Guide for Naomi who has been visually impaired her entire life and became totally blind while she was in college at the University of Kansas in 1976.
Baron was born in the kennel of The Seeing Eye in Morristown, New Jersey, outside New York City. Baron was raised by volunteer puppy raisers in the Poconos of Pennsylvania for about a year. He was then sent back to The Seeing Eye for training as a Dog Guide.
In May of 2001, Naomi Soule spent the month at The Seeing Eye to learn how to work with her Dog Guide. Baron was not the first dog given to Naomi. She originally worked with a Golden Retriever. That dog was determined not to be ready as a Dog Guide. A few days later, Baron and Naomi were introduced. They immediately worked well together. Their final test was to take the Seeing Eye class field trip to Manhattan. Baron and Naomi passed with flying colors.
Baron and Naomi flew back to St. Louis. Baron soon became at home in his new surroundings with his new �mommy� and her husband, Terry Moses. Baron accompanies Naomi everywhere including to her job as a Supervisor with Rehabilitation Services for the Blind in St. Louis.
Baron serves as a silent on air �consultant� in the studio for the radio show featuring Naomi and Terry, "The Acoustic Edge" on KCLC Radio in St. Louis. Baron has a Dog Guide girlfriend in Kansas City (A Blonde.....a Golden Retriever) named Jade. He enjoys meeting people every day with his family. Baron enjoys watching TV. Some of his favorite shows include live sports activities (Baron loves hockey). Baron was placed with two people who love music. Baron's puppy raising family have a band in the Poconos so he was musically trained. Baron seldom missed band practice! Baron has attended many concerts with Naomi and Terry and has met several performers including Michael Martin Murphey, Suzy Bogguss and last but not least Dolly Parton! Baron's favorite treat is Frosty Paws frozen treats for dogs.
