(: Sorry for the quality of the photo. I know you can't see the display at all... I didn't notice the glare at the time of the photo. :) |
I fabricated a mounting bracket using sheet metal. I just cut a cardboard pattern to fit between the stock speedometer and tachometer. I then traced the pattern onto the metal and snipped, drilled, and rubber-coated it. I secured it at the upper dash mouting bolt (there's a better view of this in the next image). The rubber coat is just a tool dip you can get at any hardware store.
That black thing you see snaking from the fairing stay is the light. At one end it's fastened to the mirror bolt. At the other end is a green 12V LED from Radio Shack. I mounted the LED at the end of a 12-guage wire so I could bend & shine the light in any direction. I wrapped it in electrical tape. So far I've had no problems with it, even in torrential rain, but I plan on dipping the light wire in rubber when I get the chance.
To power the light, I used the top light fixture of the stock speedo. The stock speed has 2 dash lights, I removed the upper one and connected the LED wires to the dash light fixture (you'll have to extend the LED wires). So now the Sigma is illuminated whenever the key is turned on.
"Hey dude... that LED is blocking your view of the stock speedo!" Well DUHH... Since I'm using the Sigma, I don't look at the stock speedo anymore!
