Course: A four corner flat criterium
Course Description: The back straight away is somewhat narrow. The other three are very wide. There is a set of rail road tracks between turns three and four.
Distances: The races are between 45 and 60 minutes long.
Road Surface: Mostly pretty good except for the RR tracks that you cross between turns three and four.
Gearing: Flat criterium gears.
Facilities: There will be porta cans and water at the race site. For food there are stores nearby. You might want to check the softball fields across the street for a quick soda, or pre-race chili dog.
Weather: It should be pleasant by this time of year.
Feeding: N/A
Rules Specific to this race: Remember, for Sr. 1/2/Pro men and Sr. 1/2/3 women this is a stage race on time. For everybody else it is on points.
Race Advice: If your group is racing on points, you need to place well. Winning the race in a field sprint or lapping the field seven times will get you the same amount of points. For the groups racing on time, it is a chance for lower placed riders to get away and steal a good stage placing. Know who is well placed on GC. If one of the top GC riders gets into a break, it is less likely to stay away. The other GC riders will bring it back. A group of low placed riders will have a good chance of staying away. If you are well placed on GC, try to stay alert to other GC riders getting away while sitting in and not wasting your energy.
BTW, DON'T jump the rail road tracks. When you're in the air, you're not in control of your bike. Just "unweight" you bike and you will lightly roll over the tracks. Also if you time your jump badly you might come down on the second rail and get a flat, or worse.
