| 2006 BIRTHDAY PARTY: The Birthday Party was held on Saturday Mar. 4 and was combined with the chapter monthly meeting the following day Sunday, Mar. 5. The thing that made this party unique compared to other chapter events is that this party was planned as an overnight campout! Yep, you heard right. Members pitched their tents inside the auditorium at the Miramichi Kin Center and made it an allnighter! With all the decorations, music, displays and entertainment it was something to see. It would have been nice to see more members able to attend but those who could make it will talk about this one for a long time to come. There were plenty of activities to keep everyone from getting bored including samples of air brushing done by Tim Pellerin of Threshold Air and a mini custom chopper display by Miramichi Speed and Custom. There was a swap meet with items provided by several members. Stewart's Harley-Davidson even had a table with OEM and after market parts for sale. All at some really fantastic prices. Stewart's also delivered a brand new 2006 Street Bob to put on display in the hall. Nice going Jr. we appreciate the support you gave the chapter in making this first time, "one of a kind" chapter event a success. After the dealership closed at 1:00 PM members started arriving at the Kin Center to select their campsite and set up their tents. The bar was opened up and members just "free wheeled" the afternoon away browsing the displays and checking out the swap meet tables. Special thanks to Stephanie from Stewart's for volunteering to work the bar. She kept the ale flowing until midnight with only a couple of short breaks. Much appreciated Steph!. There were indoor games such as a golf putting competition and a dart dropping contest. Winners of the games each received a $20.00 gift certificate from Stewart's H-D. Who couldn't use one of those right? In addition to the games there was a "Loonie Jar" where members could try their luck at dropping a coin into a water filled jar in hopes of getting the coin in a submerged shot glass. The prize was a ladies genuine H-D knitted turtleneck sweater valued at $89.99 plus tax. There was also a "Pick-A-Peg" game where members paid for their ticket based on the color peg they drew. The prize was a men's genuine H-D mechanic's shirt valued at $82.95 plus tax. These two very nice prices were provided by Stewart's and were exchangable for any size as long as the sales tag was not removed. At 5 PM a scrumpous pork tenderloin dinner was served followed by the cutting of the Birthday Cake. The meal was a bargain at only $5 per plate. This was the 7th anniversary of the chapter being formed and probably the best birthday party members have been treated to since the chapter was chartered in Jan. 1999. The highlight of the evening was marked by the lighting of the indoor campfire which signalled the start of a funfilled evening of live guitar music by new member Darren M. He was joined by Director John later in the evening but only after he had ingested a sufficient amount of spirited libation to overcome his reluctance. Afterall, 20 years of not playing the guitar leaves ample room for mistakes, not to mention the very sore fingers the next day! There was something for everyone. For those member that preferred a more quiet evening they could entertain themselves with a friendly game of pool, cards or backgammon. For anyone really interested in kicking back and "chillin out" there were continuously running "biker movies" on a 52" BSTV. Easy Rider and The Wild One were the favorites. Shortly after 9:00 members were surprised and pleased to see Jr. and Corrine walk through the doors. Despite plans to attend a family wedding plus a sudden family illness they made time to spend a couple of hours mingling with the group. Thanks guys for coming and we hope to see you at many more chapter events in the future. You know you are always welcome. By midnight most campers had retired except for a couple of die hards who didn't go down till 2:30. This was one of, if not, the best parties the chapter has ever held. Thank you to everyone who helped out in whatever way they could. Plans are already underway for the next Birthday Party and once the word gets out about this one we'll have to look for a bigger place for sure! |
| The above photos will give you an idea of how much fun everyone had. If you think that all you missed was just another "run of the mill" party, think again. This was a completely different event from any other the chapter has held in the past. Ask anyone who was there and they'll tell you all the details and odds are you won't miss the next one which, by the way, has already been tentatively booked for Feb. 24 at the same place. A BIG THANK YOU goes out to everyone who supported the project. Regardless of whether it was a 5 minute or 5 hour contribution we gladly accept the time you could give. Especially the "Brokeback Mountain" kitchen cleanup boys! Your help was very much appreciated and was instrumental in making the party an overwhelming success despite a substantial financial loss to the chapter. The project report for the Birthday Party has been finalized and exactly how much the chapter lost will be a topic of discussion at the April meeting. The numbers indicate that had there been another four couples attend the party the chapter would have probably broken even. None the less, it was worth every single penny! |
