At present, the "AMAZING LAMPANG 2000" campaign is in full swing.
Initiated by the provincial authorities,the campaign is designed to promote and stimulate a wide range of events and cultural displays with the aim of attracting more visitors to this ancient city.The infrastructure is in place now with a good rail link,and the new highway, much of wich is dual carriage-way, is virtually complete,cutting the driving time from Chiang Mai dramatically. Commemoration of the Arrival of the Northern Railway and the First Horse Drawn Carriages

Wang River Thanksgiving
On April 1st , join the people of Lampang in giving thanks to the Wang River,the lifeblood of the the city. This event will take place on the banks of the Wang River in Lampang town. Merit making will be done, food will be presented to Buddhist monks, a Buddhist ritual will be held, and there will be a parade of Buddha images. Songkran and the Silver Bowl Festival
Enjoy the Songkran festival in Lampang from April 10 to 14. Songkran will be celebrated,along with Lampang's unique Sa Loong Luang (silver bowl) festival. Organized events will include the parading of Lampang's own Emerald Buddha image through the city streets, making merit, drum beating competition, beauty contest and traditional Thai New Year ceremonies. Dam Hua Ceremony of Jao Phor Pratu Pha
This ceremony takes place at the Jao Phor Pratu Pha shrine in Ngao District from April 29 to 30. Visitors to the shrine will see ancient rock drawings dating back some 3,000 to 5,000 years Entertainment will include folk games, traditional dancing and Thai boxing (Muay Thai) contests in the ancient style to commemorate this famous historical figure. Pineapple Fair
Pineapples are one of the farm products that Lampang is justly proud of, and the annual Pineapple fair from June 2 to 4 celebrates this favorite fruit. There will be a pineapple contest, with farmers displaying their finest fruit. Lampang Food and Fish Fair
The Food and Fish Fair will be held on the banks of the Wang River between July 5 and 8. There will be an exhibition of local fisheries, a chance to release fish into the river, and aquarium and drawing competitions. Mae Mor Mini-Marathon in the Queen's Honor
A mini-marathon competition will be held in the Mae Mor District of Lampang on August 6 in honor of Her Majesty the Queen's birthday. Participants,whether runners or walkers,will be warmly welcomed. Gew Lom Rafting Weekend
Gew Lom Dam will host this rafting weekend from October 6 to 8. There will be boat racing between crews of enthusiastic oarsmen, diving in the waters and fabulous raft trips on the resevoir. Loy Krathong Festival
Lampang has its own special Loy Krathong celebration called the "Lohng Sapao Jao Wiang Lakorn" Festival. It will be held on NOvember 3 and 4 on the banks of Wang River as it flows through the city. Enjoy the beauty of the full moon as it shines on the krathongs floating in the river .Stare in awe at the magnificent spectacle of hot air paper balloons as they are launched and follow them as they rise steadily into the night sky.There will also be a fireworks display and a contest for the best foliage archway. Floral Carnival
Suan Pa Thoong Gwian in Hang Chat District plays host to the Froral Carnival, Taking place between December 4 and 12.There will be parades of floral floats and elephants, as well as competitions to judge the finest flowering shrubs and plants.There will also be displays of cut flowers,plants and wooden handicraft items. Ceramics Fair
Lampang is famed for its ceramics and a large Ceramic fair will be held in the parking lot of the Big C department store between December 4 and 10. The Fair will include displays and exhibitions of ceramic products, a contest for the most unusual ceramics, as well as dozens of stalls selling ceramic goods at bargain prices.The Lampang Ceramics Association is organizing this event and can be contacted for further information:(054)226300

Winter Fair and Red Cross Fair
Lampang holds an annual Winter Fair and Red Cross Fair which this year will be held between December 28 and January 5,2001. There will be many forms of northern Thai entertainment and a wealth of stalls run by various government agencies. Traditional products and handicrafts will be good buys, and the evenings will be alive with beauty competitions and other amusements.
