Coach Keller

Joe Keller has served as the NASA and Northridge High School Swimming and Diving Head Coach since July 1991. Coach Keller graduated from Ball State University in May 1991 where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education with a supporting area in United States History.
Upon graduation, he attended Indiana University at Pennsylvania to increase his aquatics background . At IUP, he received the following certifications: WSI, Lifeguard Instructor, CPR and First Aid Instructor, Pool Operator on Location license and AAPHERD’s Aquatic Facility Management Certification.

Recruited to Ball State from Petersburg, Indiana, Coach Keller was a Mid-American Conference qualifier all four years in the 100 and 200 yard breaststroke. Upon graduating, he ranked 10th and 5th respectively on Ball State’s top 10 all-time list. He was honored with the Most Improved Swimmer Award his Sophomore year and the Senior Award, BSU highest swimming award, his final year.
Academically, Coach Keller was a member of Alpha Lamba Delta National Honor Society, was on the Dean’s list seven of the eight semesters and received the swim teams Top Scholar/Athletic Academic Award his senior year. In May 2001, Coach Keller completed his Master of Science degree in Education at Indiana University, South Bend.

At Northridge, his responsibilities other than coaching include teaching Physical Education and Lifeguard Training and the Elementary and Middle School learn to swim programs. He also serves as the Aquatics Directorand Physical Education Department Chairperson.

Coaching awards include being named Conference and Sectional Coach of the Year,Indiana Swimming Coaches Association 2003 and 2005 Outstanding Senior Coach, Central Zone Team Coach, Ball State University Alumni Girls Swimming Coach of the Year,2005 Boys Swimming Coach of the Year, 2005 Indiana High School Boys State Coach of the Year, Indiana Swimming Olympic Training Center Camp Coach and serving as a State Diving Judge.

Coach Keller is a Level 4 certified (achievement) ASCA coach and is currently completing his educational portion of the Leadership School. Upon completion, he will rank in the top 10% of American Swimming Coaches.

Coach Keller is married to Patti and they have three children: Philip, Kristopher and Timothy.

Coach Welch

Jenny Welch was born in Camp Lajune North Carolina to Dr. Robert and Julie Becknell. Jenny grew up in LaPorte, Indiana where she was a diver for LaPorte High School. As a state contender in high school she earned a diving scholarship to Ball State University, and then later transferred to Montana State University.

Jenny married Chris Welch in 1987 and moved to Elkhart where she had worked at Animal Care Clinic North. They currently reside in Bristol with three daughters: Molly, Jillian, and Cristin.

Jenny is a member of the Board of Directors at CAPS (Child and Parent Services), a co-founder and President of ARMS (Adults reaching Middlebury Students), and President of Heritage Middle School's PTO. She had coached diving at LaPorte High School from 1985 - 1987, and is now the Northridge High School's diving Coach.

Coach Troyer

Steve Troyer was born and raised in the Middlebury area, graduating from Northridge High School in 2000. In high school he was a 4 year letter winner and two-time team captain while swimming for Coach Keller and the Raiders. He also participated in NASA for 10 years before he went to college.

Coach Troyer attended Ball State University and received his Bachelors of Science Degree in Technology Education in 2004. His academic achievements included being on the Dean's List all eight semesters and graduating suma cum laude with the highest GPA in the Department of Technology.

After graduating from college, Coach Troyer married his wife Cari and they moved to Fort Wayne for employment opportunities. He taught at Carroll High School for 3 years and was an assistant swim coach during that time as well, both with the age-group club team and the high school team.

In the summer of 2007 Coach Troyer had an opportunity to come back to Middlebury to teach and coach in the school system he grew up in. He and his wife moved back and are excited about being in the Middlebury community once again.
