Friends of North Plains SkatePark
2nd Committe Meeting November 13, 2007 at 7pm
The meeting was called to order by President, Mike Broome at 7:05 PM. Our First Fundraiser will be collecting Aluminum Cans. It was decided that Michelle would distribute flyers at the school announcing that we will be coming around the North Plains neighborhoods and going door to door to collect cans during the week of November 25 thru November 30. This will be done after school lets out in the afternoons. Flyers will also be posted at various businesses around town, at the post office and at the bank to notify people who do not have children in school. We will also be asking for cash donations at the same time and Brian is purchasing some receipt books so receipts can be given to any person wanting one. Since we are a 501-C association, any donations are tax-deductible. Mike will take care of the can redemption. Michelle offered to collect cans at her home also and said she would put her phone number on the flyers if people want to call for can pickups. Call Michelle at 503-647-0747 if you would like to be a part of this or if you just want more information. It was decided that the Cookbooks should be started on immediately and the goal is to have some ready by December 1st. Kathleen will type up all the recipes and asked that they be emailed to her at: [email protected] Recipes are to be favorites of ours, our families and friends or any person in the community who would like to share. A deadline of November 26 was set for submitting the recipes. Michelle is checking at Office Depot for notebooks and laminating costs. She was going to ask Office Depot if they might possibly donate to this project. Brian will be putting a notice in the City Water Bills in December about the Cookbooks being good Christmas Gifts. A retail price was guessed at somewhere between $5.00 to $10.00 dollars depending on our costs. It was suggested that we might want to sell them at the Catholic Church Bazaar in December also. Further discussion on selling these and prices will be discussed at our next meeting. Mike asked if we might be interested in printing up T-Shirts to sell They would have our Association name on the front and a current list of contributing sponsors on the back. Mike knows someone who could do this and so does Walt. They are both checking into it and will report on it at the next meeting. There were several Logos submitted and we liked them all, so we just decided to put them into our Cookbook along with pictures of our local skaters. Any pictures or logos should be emailed to Kathleen at: [email protected] and she will include them in the cookbook with the recipes. If any skater needs a picture taken for this, William Smith has offered to photograph skaters at Jesse May Park before November 26th. If you would like to have this done, contact him at: 503-647-7694 Dave Stocker reported that the majority of the people in the town are in favor of the skate park. He said at the last City Council Meeting the City approved putting a temporary skate park in the current basketball area at Jesse Mays Park. Permission was given to put together two different designs for a portable skate park to be presented for the City's approval at the next Council meeting. Dave has since contacted Rainbow Park and Playground in Tigard, Or. This company designs SK8 Skateparks and have offered to work up two different designs to fit in a 50 X 50 area. Their equipment is well made with steel ramps and is guaranteed. They will deliver and the City would set it up. Dave said he is in hopes of presenting this new portable skate park to the City for skaters to use by Christmas of this year. If that indeed happens we will be planning some kind of opening celebration at that time. Visit the SK8 Parks Web Site where you can see various design layouts according to price. Their URL is: www.sk8parks.com/index.iml Participation in the Holiday Lights parade in North Plains on December 11 was discussed. Walt is checking into getting a golf cart for us to decorate. This will be discussed further at our next meeting to see if everyone is interested in participating and if it would be a worthwhile activity.
