Friends of North Plains SkatePark
4th Committe Meeting January 08, 2008 at 7pm
The meeting was called to order by President, Mike Broome at 7:00 PM. Councilman David Hatcher was in attendance to represent the City. He explained that there was possibly some mis-understanding between the City and our Committee and he wanted to work with us to resolve that. He also was open to any questions we might have. During the discussion we stated that we needed to get a yes or a no from the City as to whether we had a temporary space for a skatepark. This was necessary before we could proceed with any more fundraising. We didn't feel we could collect money without being sure we had a place to put the equipment we planned to purchase. David said we would need to submit a written proposal to the City Council for a vote. He said if we could put a proposal together he would try to get us on the docket for the next Council meeting. A committee was formed to draft a proposal based on the criteria the City was looking for. Brian Dormier, Mary Stocker, Glen Warren and Kathleen Warren volunteered to be on the committee. Dave stated that our organization was only a fundraising organization. We will raise the money for the City to purchase the equipment or hire a contractor to build the equipment. The equipment chosen and approved was a design by sk8Parks. It is a modular design consisting of 8 pieces of equipment that would fit into a 41ft x 57 ft space. The design is for beginner to advanced skaters Dave said he met with the insurance company and this type of equipment was approved by them for use. This design would cost approximately $20,000. David Hatcher said we would also have to have volunteers available to take down the equipment during Garlic Festival and replace it after Garlic Festival, also to monitor activity daily for one year if the City approved a skatepark in Jesse Mays. A Signup Sheet was passed around for these purposes and four people signed up as volunteers. We feel we cannot move forward with anymore fundraising until we have a definate approval from the City Council on whether we can have the area in Jesse May Park. Mike said we now have $962.00 in the Bank, with a promise of a $ 2000.00 check coming as a donation from a local business.
