| The first Preller in Southern Africa was Johan Frederik Preller who arrived in Cape Town on the 12th October 1786. He was contracted to the House of Orange "Mercenary" armed forces from Halle in Germany. He stayed on in the Cape after his mandatory service period and became a Vry Burger. He married and had 5 children; 3 daughters and 2 sons - only 1 of whom married and had children. (Info provided by David Preller) |
