Nowhere Van; Information

13 May 2002/13 May 2003 - RIP Nowhere van #3

Nowhere van 3 has been gone for a year now, the web pages are almost finished, I am just posting photos from the road trip I took over the summer of 2000.

Nowhere Van #4 - 1977 Dodge Tradesman Van

Yes, April First 2002 and I got another van. The Nowhere van #3 didn't pass state inspection for the first time. The ball joints and idler arms have had it. I found this one ton extended van with a lot less rust. So The Nowhere van title will change vans soon. The New Van sports a 400 so it has more power. It is also an extended van, so more room. A one tone so it can haul more weight, and it has less windows. I have some photos posted on its web site, the van is running, it just needs state inspection.

1973 Dodge Sportsman Royal

Under all of the stickers is a Dodge 3/4 ton van. Originally a window van with seating for eight or so, this van came from the factory with air conditioning and other options. When I got this van it had been gutted and was not running. I got this van here in Richmond, Va. to replace Nowhere van #2. I got this van from someone who I had fixed it for. The guy was going to sell it to me but was unable to produce the title. I tracked down the title since the "owner" stole tools and owed me money. I later found the guy was driving it without a title or tags since he never titled the van in his name. The last owner signed the title to me to avoid back taxes since the title was still in her name.

The Engine

The original engine was a 318 ci (5.2L) V8 backed with an automatic transmission.

I Replaced the original engine rather than rebuild it in August 1997 with a used 360 ci. (5.9L) V8 I had in the garage.

The Roof-top Boxes

Built from scrap lumber I had around, the roof-top boxes have been rebuilt again. The first boxes were crushed by a falling tree in a storm in Ohio. Where the last roof-top boxes gave way to wood rot. This time I have used new, treated lumber to build the base. And even paid for treated plywood to top them off.

The front Chain box

Located on the front bumper, I originally bolted this old military ammunition box to the Nowhere van just to hold the bumper jack and snow chains. The bumper jack is gone, replaced with a bottle jack. The snow chains fell apart, but the box is now home for all of my tow chains and straps.
