Title: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader

Author: Lewis, C.S.

Book Preview:

They set off toward the end of the earth looking for the land of Aslan. No sea monster or tidal wave would get in their way. Edmund knew there would be no way home unless his sister, Lucy, their evil cousin, Eustace, and he made their journey to where Aslan stood waiting for them. Edmund’s old friend, Caspian, the new king of the enchanted land of Narnia, went along with them to find his elders who had been sent on the same journey  seven years before but had never returned. The adventurers found new lands, golden water, and sea monsters while living on ship through great storms and droughts. Nothing could get in their way on their journey home.

Rating:

The book could have been less confusing if it didn’t have so many stories inside the main story. I think C.S. Lewis did this because he has so many ideas for the characters to do and achieve.

I most liked the description. The author described each lesson learned and each characters personality. For example, when the children fell through the picture frame onto Caspian’s boat, the author wrote, "The wind minimized them to fit right on the edge of the picture, standing in front of a great sea on which was a dragon boat, waiting for them to fall."

Also the characters were daring and didn’t give up when the sea got rough. There were all courageous and helped one another. They each had a different personality. One was gentile and calm. Some of the others got stressed easily and had to put up with the others.

There was many lessons learned but not many I would need in real life. One was never run away or funny things will happen to you, which I already know. Another I didn’t need was don’t listen to others when they are mad.

This book was such a "page turner" I couldn’t stop reading after I started. I had many questions from the beginning. At the end I need to know if all the characters would get home from their journey. The author writes with very good suspense.

Last it had an excellent ending. The author didn’t tell you if they would get home from their journey until the very end. They lived on the boat for almost the whole book, and it was hard to figure out if they would make the journey because the author didn’t give me any clues to the mystery of the whole book.

I would compare this book to Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Both books have to do with magic. I like Harry Potter better because it had more suspense and was more interesting to read. I can also compare this book to other book in the series because they are all about the land of Narnia and the things that happen to it over the years. The other books are not as suspenseful as The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. I like The Horse and His Boy the best because of all the animals included. Al the books written by C.S. Lewis are very detailed and suspenseful. [Julie]
