Title: The Power of Un

Author: Etchemendy, Nancy

Book Preview:

Gib and his family are perfectly normal people until Gib gets the Power of Un.  Everything depends on him, but he has no clue why or what he has to do.  He meets a mysterious old man and an eerie fortuneteller, and he finds out how much his sister really means to him as he travels along the adventurous path finding out what the Power of Un really is.

Rating:

This book had a wonderful beginning. Instead of starting with a beginning, it basically started with an ending. It also didn’t have a boring introduction like "My name is …" or "Once upon a time…". I also enjoyed how the person the story was about is the one that is telling it to you.

The author also would build up events and then end the chapter so that it would be a cliffhanger. That made you want to keep reading.

I also liked how there was a lot of mystery, like the old man and the Unner. There were many questions that you could think of as well that weren’t answered until the ending.

What I really liked about this book, though, was the mystery surrounding the old man. For most of the story you didn’t know where he came from, who he was, or even why he gave the Unner to Gib.

One thing that would have made this book better though would be if the book had better description. That would make it better because then you could have a better idea of where and when it took place, and what the characters’ personalities were, and what they looked like. The author probably didn’t do this because she didn’t want to make the story confusing or boring by having unnecessary detail.

When I read this book it made me think of Through the Looking Glass (by the author of Alice in Wonderland) because both are "what if" stories. In Through the Looking Glass, Alice dreams of what would happen if she could go through the mirror in the living room. In The Power of Un, Gib sees what would happen if he could undo whatever he wants (because the Unner allows him to go back in time).

I enjoyed Through the Looking Glass better because it had more description and more fantasy, but both stories were interesting and unique. [Amber]

The introduction was awesome. I liked how the author started the book, like no other book I have read. I also liked how the author really made me wonder questions. The introduction got me started up and made me want to read the book.

The Power of Un had great description that helped me form a picture in my head. I liked how the book had interesting words. For example, the silvery moonlight made the sequins glitter like magic, and I fell asleep again.

The events in this book were exciting. I really liked how you never knew what was going to happen next. It was really cool how the author set up the events and how it made it seem that you really did go back in time. For example, when Gib is in the forest and he hears the bird. Then he uses the unner and the author repeats everything exactly like she did it before.

The characters in The Power of Un were unique. How in the world did the author come up with such an awesome character as the stranger? One thing that I like is when the author is creative and has a good imagination. Usually when they have those qualities, the book is great, just like this one.

After reading The Power of Un, it became my favorite book. One of its specialties is interest. It was so unique that I even read it twice. I was so excited to keep on reading when Mr. Payne put it down. I think our whole class was.

This book was well organized. It had a clear beginning, middle, and end. One thing that would have made this book better was if the author would have not skipped around so much like when Gib tried the unner so many times and how then he let Ash try the unner. [Aileen]

I most liked the introduction. It didn’t give away too much information about the book. It also caught my attention by being an autobiography. I liked how the story started out at the end then went to the beginning. Also the title has nothing to do with the introduction so it’s a mystery and made me wasn’t to finish the book the first time I started to read it.

Also I liked that it was a "page turner." At the end of each chapter the author ended with a huge cliffhanger, which made me want to read on. The book wasn’t too overwhelming and contained just enough detail (not too much) to keep my interest throughout the book.

There wasn’t as much detail as other books I’ve read. But most of them have too much detail so they aren’t interesting. Everything the author described was with her senses, just like most description is, but she didn’t use too much detail. Also, she mostly used her sight, which is my favorite sense.

The events were very exciting, especially the one towards the end. They were very strongly focus on the main topic of the chapter. All the events were in perfect organization. They also kept the interest level high.

I loved the characters. In fact I really liked how the main character was telling the story. I really like autobiographies. In some books a character is telling the story, but they’re not the main character. That’s what makes some book not interesting.

If you are a person who likes real life stories, then this is the book fro you. Though the book is not based on a real life story it tells about a normal kid who just wants to have fun. . They both tell about kids in unreal worlds. I think I liked The Golden Compass better because of is non-human things. I really like fantasy books better. [Julie]

The book got off to a very good start. I liked how the author started with the end of the story and then went to the beginning. Also, I liked how the author didn’t introduce all of the characters in the beginning. He also talked about most of the general stuff in the introduction.

Great description makes me want to read this book. I liked the part where he described the stranger. If he didn’t put in that much description about the stranger, it would have been much harder to picture him in my head.

The characters were very creative, like Madam Isis, The Stranger, Roxy, Rainy, and Mrs. Shripnal. The book could have been improved if the author had told more about the voices in the bushes, the panel on his hand, and why the stranger didn’t have enough time. I think she didn’t do that because she thought it would be interesting to keep it a mystery.

The events were very thrilling. The most exciting parts of the book were when Gib got the Unner and the ending. The giving of the Unner was actually the most important part of the book.

The ending was amazing. It was unpredictable. This book should have a sequel telling about who helps the stranger and tell how he made the Unner. [Ravi]

I liked the ending very much because as you read on, the ending started to unfold. It seemed to get more predictable. I had guessed who the mysterious old man was, and I was right. I thought the ending was the best part about the book.

The introduction was very good, too. It was Gib talking about what happened to him when the old man had given him the Unner. That part was the most interesting about the introduction. I also thought that the introduction was interesting because it got my attention quickly. It also made me want to go on.

This is the best book I've ever read because of how exciting it was. It kept my interest the whole time we were reading in class because the story was more interesting as we went on with the book. Everyone in class was waiting to find out what happens to Roxy at the end of the book.

The characters were very interesting, especially the mysterious, old man. He was a mystery throughout the book. Gib was interesting too, because he was given the Unner and Roxy's life depended on his decisions. Roxy was interesting, but not as much as the old man and Gib. One of the interesting things about Roxy was that she was the main reason Gib was given the Unner.

The events were interesting because you didn't know what Gib would do with the Unner next. I thought the most exciting event is in the end when Gib is running after Roxy. [Mitchal]

I think that it was really good that the author made each character slightly different because it makes it less confusing. My favorite character in this book was Gib because he was daring and smart at the same time. My least favorite character in this book was Roxy because she was whiney and annoying.

This book was very well organized. It was easy for me to follow what was going on, and who or what was doing it. The reason I liked the good organization in this book was it didn’t jump around so I didn’t get confused.

The author made this book very exciting every chance she got. For instance, Roxy went running after the dog that was headed towards the road, so Lorraine and I started chasing her. Lorraine grabbed Roxy’s shoulder and pulled her back, but Lorraine kept going. Then, "CRACK" Lorraine had been hit by a truck. I loved the excitement level of this book. It kept me interested until the very end.

The author did a very good job describing things, but sometimes you didn’t know what she was describing. For instance, "it" looked like a piece of junk with buttons taped on and it was held together with masking tape.

The introduction of this book was pretty weak. It did not catch my interest at all. The reason it was so boring was that it did not use enough description in the very beginning. If the author had made the beginning more descriptive it would have caught my interest much faster. [Brad]

The introduction had a very unique way of starting. It had the author in Gib’s shoes, telling the story to you. It didn’t just jabber about unimportant stuff, it told you right away about what was going on and why. Also it was a page-turner, right from the very beginning of the book. It made me want to read and read.

The characters had common personalities that authors use a lot. The characters also had quick minds. Another great thing was that the main character had an adventurous streak. For example, Gib wasn’t very cautious about what to do next, he just made up his mind and plunged in. It had the characters be somewhat real like. Like Gib’s sister Roxy, she acted like a kid would act toward their older sister/brother.

It had an excellent lesson: Not to rely heavily on other people, but to do things yourself. In the end, they might not be there to help you, and you would have to do it yourself and wouldn’t understand how to.

The events were spectacular. It was very "cliff hanging" and surprising. It had many exciting events. One of my favorites is when Gib uses the Unner for the first time and he gets very shocked. Another is when the potatoes get over piled with salt. Both of them played an important role in the book. The events put spice into the book. Another good thing is that I had never ever before read a book with such fantastic events. The plot is very exciting and unusual.

This book held my interest extremely well. It didn’t get off topic or have boring parts. It banged and boomed! I usually pick books that are sometimes dull, but this book was full of excitement and unsuspecting twist- turning parts. It was like drinking Gatorade after an Olympics run and you just want to gulp, gulp and gulp. It was that way with the book, I wanted to keep on going and going, like that battery bunny commercial.

The entire book was fabulous, and I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys reading exciting, unusual, "cliff hanging" books. [Linda]

I really liked the introduction. It made me want to read more. The introduction didn’t ramble on and got to the point. There were so many exciting cliffhangers in just the first couple chapters.

The events in this book were very exciting. I really enjoyed this book because it had a lot of excitement, and it had a lot of suspense and excitement. Each event was really exciting in it’s own way.

The ending was great. I could easily understand what the author was saying. I really liked the way the author described the Unner.

The Power of Un was well organized and easy to follow. It didn’t bounce around and really focused on the main topic. Everything was spread out and wasn’t crammed together. [Amy]

It had great description. I liked how I could see an image of what the author wrote. An example is when he described the unner. I could basically see the dial screen and the S, M, H modes.

The characters were average except the Stranger and Madam Isis. They were like average people in an average family. They’re not unusual. The guy working at the Ferris wheel shouldn't have been in the book. He had no use to the book because he didn't play any special part in the book. All he did was stop Roxi from getting caught in the machinery.

The organization of this book was excellent. I never got lost. I understand what this author wrote. An example is what the author meant by the unner- a machine that can undo anything.

The events were shocking, funny, and weird. One of them was when the stranger gave him the unner. That was one of the weird ones because I didn't see why he gets the unner instead of someone else.

The excitement was good. Most of the events were exciting. The characters were somewhat exciting. An example is when the invisible force tries to stop Gib from getting the unner. [Robert]

The introduction made me want to read the whole book because it started at the end to the beginning, leaving me with a question like, "Why did he have a broken leg?" When the author described things, it was very helpful for me to picture it in my head. The author could have improved it by taking out some details like when she describes a toy yo-yo. Even though describing things was helpful, there were too many details that weren’t necessary.

The events were very interesting. I wanted to read more because every chapter left a question in my mind. I liked how the first sentence was very catchy. It was leaving off from another event.

The description is good. The author describes little details like the toys in Gib’s room. Like I have said, she could have improved it by taking out some details.

The characters were interesting. The most interesting, unusual, and mysterious character was the stranger. That is because the author didn’t give him a name, which made me curious. I liked how the author gave hints on who the stranger might have been.

The ending was very good! I liked how Gib finished the ending like he was the narrator. It had the real-life lesson in the last sentence. [Ami]

This book had many things that I liked. One is how it ended every chapter with a good mystery. For example one of the chapters ended by saying "Then Gib hit the red order button." That made me think about what might happen next. Another is how she told the book from the end of the story to the beginning. A boy told the story. The last one is that when someone unned something that she told everything over again.

There are only two things that I would change in this book. One is to talk more about the characters. The author only talked about two of the characters a lot. She could have put more parts in that include the other characters. She could have made him undo a test or something like that. The second is that the book could have had something happen to the unner right when he is going to use it. That would have made the book a little more interesting.

This book was very exciting because it was always having another mystery. The most exciting part was when he lunged at his sister. Some other good parts were when Gib unned something, and you would read if he was going to change it or not. This had to be one of the most exciting books I will read in a long time.

This book had a very high interest level. It kept my interest by having exciting events and a good introduction. The book had a good mystery after every end of a chapter. At the end of the first chapter it would end with a mystery, and it would be solved in the next chapter.

Most of the characters were well described. The author talked about their personalities and how they look. For example when Gib fell down in the woods and got the cut on his nose she explained where it is and how he felt about it. The main characters were Gib and Ash. Gib was the one who got the unner and from then on he changed. He changed because he wondered how it worked and if it worked. Ash thought he was crazy about it, but he trusted his best friend. The other characters were not mentioned in this book a lot. For example the only part that Gib’s teacher had was when she got hit in the head with the spitball. She could have had another part by having a test. So that Gib can go back and change it or Ace the test.

The description was very good. The author described mostly every thing in some way, she told us what Gib feet when he kept his eyes open and hit the order key. That made me fell more into the book when I know how Gib felt.

The ending was a really good part because it ended by him going back and trying to save someone. I thought this was one of the best parts because it solved the question. The question was why the old man gave him the unner? [Mike]

The author described the characters very well when they are first introduced to the book. Also the kid’s act like real kids, they use expressions like kids do now.

It teaches to listen to others and do what they say. It also teaches to not blame someone for something they may not have done.

When the characters were first introduced, they seemed like ordinary kids attending an average school. The author knew when to add more details or take some out like when the author was talking about the old man. For example, when Gib and the old man met in the woods, the author described him as smelling like lightning.

The book had a lot of details and interesting parts that never got boring. The cliffhangers at the end of each chapter kept me wanting to read more about what would happen next.

I like this book because of the suspense and surprise. For example, when Roxy started to run after the stray dog and a truck started to back up toward her, the chapter ended. Also, when Gib and the old man met, he informed Gib he didn’t have a lot of time, and then he disappeared.

What would have made the book better was for the author to say at the end of the book who Madam Isis and the old man really were. I think the author didn’t use my idea because the author gave clues to who they were and at the ending you could tell who they were by the description. [Tara]

This book kept me very interested. I wanted to read this book all in one day. I found this book to be suspenseful because I didn’t know what was going to happen next. I also didn’t know who the old man was. I wasn’t sure if Gib would break the unner or know how to use it.

The organization in this book was perfect. The events were in the best order that they could be in. Each event led into another event in the book.

The characters were very interesting. The author described the characters like they were my friends. I could see when Gib would get frustrated with his sister Roxey because see always wanted him to play dog with her. Gib was irritated by his sister, and then he was trying to protect her from getting hit by the car.

The introduction caught my attention quickly. The book got right to the subject of the book. I was anxious to find out what the purpose of the unner was.

The real life lesson of this book was sometimes bad things happen, but you must try to do your best in all situations.

The Power of UN is very similar to Holes because they both have a mystery to them. They both have a mystery with the unner and the treasure. They both make you want to read the book all at once. [Brett]

I thought the description was great. The author did a great job describing the things or places. The description let me have picture in mind, like when they described the carnival. The part let me have a scene in my mind, and the author did a good job describing it.

The best thing about the book is that it left the readers in cliffhangers. This is what I liked about the book. For example, the author left you in a cliffhanger when the mysterious man came.

Another thing that I liked about the book was the events were so exciting you can’t stop reading. It also left you in cliffhangers so you just can’t stop. You would want to read the book until it is done.

The book was well organized. I liked how the author put all the events in order not just scattered around.

The ending was so exciting. I liked how the author revealed who the mysterious man was. It was also very surprising. [Talha]

I liked how the author wrote it. I thought it was neat how the author had Gib telling the story.

There weren’t a lot of events. I think that the author could have added at least one more. (If that was added I think it would keep more interest in the reader.)

I liked how the author explained their actions. Like when the author talked about Roxy’s scream splitting the air.

I loved the introduction. Just reading through the first chapter made me want to read the rest.

The Power of Un is one of the most interesting books I have ever read. [Ryan]

The description was well written. It made me want to read on and the comparisons were good! For example, when Gib’s sister got hit by the truck, the author described her helpless body flying through the air like a rag doll.

The book sort of lost me when Gib traveled back in time. The author started time back at the beginning of the book when I didn’t quite remember it, but I got back on track.

The story has some interesting events. There was one part that was uninteresting. It was when Gib went back in time and went to the carnival three times. It also said the same thing. The author didn’t have to do this to show how power of the unner. After the first time we got the point.

The book kept my interest. The story usually caught my interest at the end of chapters instead of throughout. Everyday we read the book I wanted to go on.

The real life lesson is never give up. I think this is very important because another one is, if you don’t try you’ll succeed.

The book is well written. I liked the good description that really got me into the book, the real life lesson that got me thinking, and the events that were filled with fun. There’s something I would want to change in the story. Our class read it out loud and at every chapter we’d stop. The end of the chapter was the most exciting. I didn’t think the author could do anything about this, but I think we should’ve read it alone. I think we didn’t do this because we were short on time and only had one copy. [Craig]

When I read the introduction I knew I was going to like this book! The introduction made me want to read more. It grabbed my attention. I didn’t want to stop reading it.

This book was really interesting! I looked forward to reading another chapter every day. There were a lot of cliffhangers. The cliffhangers made me want to read the next chapter to see what was going to happen next.

This book was well organized because it didn’t jump around. It was easy to follow. The way it was organized made it interesting.

The characters in this book were interesting. One character in particular is very mysterious because he gave Gib a strange, magical box (the unner). The stranger smelled like lighting, and he disappeared right in front of Gib.

The events in this book were exciting and kept my interest, like when Gib described how he felt when he was on The Devil’s Elevator or when Gib described the stranger in the woods. [Missy]

The description in this book was great. It describes the characters and settings well. It told where Gib was in tremendous detail. For example, when Gib was in the woods they told you exactly what was happening.

The organization was great. The book seemed to flow and not be chopped up. For example when Gib was running though the woods he tripped and fell they told what was happening instead of saying he ran home.

The introduction was great. It grabbed my interest right away. It made me never want to put the book down. At every chapter there was always cliffhangers that made me want to read further into the book.

The events were great. It never left my interest. I could see a visual picture in my head. For example, Gib running in the woods it was like I could see what was happening in my head.

The ending was superb because everyone was happy and everyone was safe. I also like how he risked his life for others. [Ian]

My overall rating is a two because it was not too exciting and only decent

I thought the introduction was very silly and interesting. For example, when the math teacher got hit with a spitball. Also the end of the chapter was a cliffhanger. I thought it had an ending like no other book I have read before. It is also pretty catchy. I bet other people would say that also.

I thought the events were kind of mysteries for the most part. For example when Madam Isis smells like the old man. That was really scary. I could not imagine my little sister getting hit. Also it was cool when Gib went back in time. I think it would be fun to time travel because it’s never been done before. The main character, Gib, was the only exciting person. He has an adventurous character. He always finds trouble. Like when he breaks the unner and Rainy gets mad so Gib has to watch his little sister. But Gib gets angry so easily. Also, Rainy is kind of interesting. Rainy sounds like a pure snob once you hear about her. When you strike her she will get you bad.

The real-life lesson is not to lose things that are valuable. Maybe in the future it could be very important like the unner and your homework. The ending was very boring. There was no point in even reading it. I think the author should have made it more interesting. I thought it had no meaning. [Emily]

This book had a good introduction. It got me interested at the very beginning because of all of the cliffhangers. One other reason is that the author did something with everyone that he mentioned.

This book made me want to hear what was on the next page because of all of the cliffhangers. I liked the cliffhangers because they make me more interested in recommending this book to another person.

This book had a lot of exciting events. The best part was when Gib and Ash went on Devils Elevator, a ride at the carnival, and Roxy chased after a dog. One other one was when the old man was in the woods with Gib and he just went into thin air.

This book’s real life lesson was never leave someone alone that is smaller than you, even if this is the only time you can go on this ride. One reason that you shouldn’t leave someone alone is that they can wander off somewhere, and then you don’t know were he/she is.

This book had interesting characters because each character had a part, even if it was only a sentence or two. I like that because then you don’t have a list of characters that don’t even do something the whole book. [Shawn]

The story was a real page-turner. When our teacher stopped reading, I was on the edge of my seat aching for more.

It was also very descriptive. Such as when the author described what the Unner looked like. An example of that was when the author said the Unner looked like a box taped together and the numbers on it were crooked.

The introduction was good as well. It made me feel like I lived every moment up until the story began. An example of that was when the author talked about what was happening the day of the spitball fight.

The characters were interesting, too. One of the interesting characters was the stranger. He was interesting because he had wild looking hair and a weird suit.

The ending was good but could have been better. I wanted the story to keep going because it was very interesting.

The real life lesson of this story was "do what you know is right."

This is the best book I ever read. [Marc]

The introduction was great. There were so many "cliff hangers". You just wanted to turn the page and fill your mind with as many clues as possible to answer the questions. What a great start!

The events were wonderful. They were surprising and unexpected, too! Most events were so good, it is impossible for me to pick a favorite.

The details were good. I could picture each and every scene in my head. I could also feel the feelings. At one part, I almost started crying!

This book was a definite "page-turner". As I said in the beginning of this rating, you didn’t want to stop reading. There were so many questions and not all of them had a positive answer. I think that could be changed.

The real-life lesson is one that many should take seriously. Unfortunately, most people don’t. It is: Never give up! This is exactly what Gib does.

The Power of Un is more detailed than I, Houdini. In The Power of Un, I could picture every scene in my head unlike I, Houdini. It took me awhile to think about a scene.

Also I, Houdini used so many large words without explaining. The Power of Un uses understandable words and it is pretty self-explainable.

They are alike in some ways, too. Both books have something strange going on. They both have many "cliff-hangers". But, of course, The Power of Un has more! [Kaity]

The Power of Un started in a very interesting way. The author wrote the story as though the main character, Gib, was telling it. It actually began at the end of the story, and then it flashed back to the beginning of the story. It did a great job giving details about the story right away, and everyone in the class was filled with questions about what was going to happen.

The characters in the story were also very interesting. Gib, Roxy, Ash, and Rainy each seemed like they could have been a kid in my classroom. The author did a great job giving them interesting personalities. Gib was irritated by his little sister, Roxy was a pest sometimes, Ash was the kind of kid you’d love as your best friend, and Rainy was the girl that you initially dislike but end up liking in the end. The author also included two very unusual and mysterious characters to the mix—Madam Isis and the Stranger. These two characters make the story even more interesting and exciting!

The story was incredibly exciting. The entire class was on the edge of their seats waiting to find out what would happen next. The author did a great job ending each chapter with a cliffhanger. Everyone wanted to read just one more chapter each time!

The end of the story was unpredictable, especially when you consider the Unner allowed Gib to change the ending over and over. It really makes you think hard about what you would do if you could change the future. What amazing power it would be, but it would also be a lot of responsibility.

The Power of Un really makes you think hard about how important the people around you are. Sometimes, we take everyone for granted, even our brothers and sisters. Even though they can be annoying, when it comes down to it, we still love them. This book really made me think about what I would do for my friends and family. I wonder if I would have been as brave as Gib in the end. [Mr. Payne]

The detail is what I liked about the book. The details were very exact. I could see what the author was describing, especially when she was describing the Unner. The detail drew a very clear picture in my head.

The events were very exciting. My favorite event was when Gib was given the Unner. I always could see in my head what was going on in the events. There was one event that I would have changed. The author made it hard for the stranger to give the Unner to Gib, and Ash (Gib’s best friend) just picked it up and gave it to Gib. That didn’t make sense to me.

The characters were interesting. I always knew how they felt. They were always doing things that that you could understand.

The introduction was cool. It started at the end of the story instead of the begging. I liked that Gib told the story. Plus, the start was interesting. It sucked me into reading the story.

The ending really threw me off! I didn’t expect that to happen at all. This book was really one of the best books that I ever read. Most books have a predictable ending, but this ending wasn’t.

I didn’t want to stop reading. It really kept my interest. No other book that I’ve read had this high of an interest level.

This book was very well organized. I liked how it didn’t skip around. I never got lost in the book. I liked everything about it. [Rachael]

This book was full of great description, which made it more interesting to read. The characters and setting were the two main things that were described with such excellent detail that it felt like I was there. I pictured all of the things in my mind clearly without trying to guess what they looked like because they were described so well.

This book had interesting characters. I thought that each of them were exciting, especially the main characters. Other characters that were used in the story briefly were less exciting. For example, Mrs. Shrapnel was not used in the story a lot, so she seemed more boring than Roxy, who was one of the main characters. Otherwise the characters were very interesting.

This book had a very interesting introduction. I liked this introduction because it was unique. The book began with the boy in a hammock looking up at the stars saying that he had broken his leg. This was something that made me wonder about what the author wrote. Then he said that something happened to him that would change the way he looked at everyday life forever, which made me want to read the book. After he said he would tell you about what happened to him, the author began the story, which caught my attention right away.

This book had an excellent ending. It was very unique, just like the beginning. The boy finished telling his story and started explaining what was happening in the present. Most stories have a beginning, middle and end, but this book had an end, beginning, and end.

One way to improve this book would be to make some pages more interesting. This book was not always a "page turner" because some pages were not exciting. For example, two pages were about the boy watching his sister and the sister being a brat and bugging him a lot. I think the author included the less interesting bits of information in some chapters because she wanted to have a book that has the characters having real life problems, even if they’re not interesting in her story. [Brittany]

I really liked the introduction of The Power of Un because it caught my interest and made me want to read on. Also, the author told a lot about the characters and made it interesting and funny at the same time, like when they had the spitball fight. It was funny, but it also told you that Gib wasn’t a very truthful person.

The description of the first few chapters is pretty good. I liked it especially when they were describing the old man. He seemed very mysterious with "the smell of lightening surrounding him." In the middle and end of the book there wasn’t very much description because the characters were talking most of the time.

There were many events in The Power of Un. All of them were very exciting and made me want to read on. I liked the parts when Gib traveled back in time because he got to redo everything he did, and I thought that was cool. The events in this book got me more interested in the plot and the characters.

I liked all of the characters from this book because they all were important once it got to the end. Like at first Rainy Frogger wasn’t very important and really didn’t have anything to do with the story, but once Gib went back in time she had a lot to do with the story and was important. One thing I did not like about the characters was that there were too many. You had to pay attention to them all to understand the ending.

I thought the ending was very good but was a little confusing. I liked how Gib not only had to go back once, but had to go back almost 5 times to reach the ending. He learned from his mistakes each time and finally realized why he got the power of un. I did not like the ending because it was confusing. You had to pay attention to every character to understand the ending and even with that I thought it was a little incomplete. [Claire]
