Title: Princess Sonora and the Long Sleep

Author: Levine, Gail Carson

Book Preview:

When Princess Sonora was born, a fairy made her ten times smarter than an ordinary person.  Then an evil fairy came and cast a spell on her so she would die when she gets poked by a needle.  When Princess Sonora heard about the spell, she didn't really care.  But why?

Rating:

I liked the description that was used, but it wasn’t great. It would have been improved if they used more words to describe things. Not just one or two.

The intro was like all fairy tales. For example, once upon a time, there lived a beautiful princess, far, far away, etc. The beginning was different from other books because they started off with an event, not a character. They did "A beautiful princess was born…" instead of "A boy named…"

The events were unusual. It is kind of weird, having a fairy turn you ten times smarter than an ordinary person, but that is what made it so interesting.

The events were kind of out of place because it kept on changing subjects, but it was good. I think it would have been improved if they started with the end to the beginning, like The Power of Un.

The characters were also unusual. Especially Princess Sonora, which was ten times smarter than an ordinary person. How would you feel if you were her? [Ami]
