Title: Island of the Blue Dolphins

Author: O'Dell, Scott

Book Preview:

“Wait!” yelled Ramo as he waved his arms. Karana, his sister, noticed that Ramo was standing on shore as the ship was preparing to sail.  He had returned to shore to get something from the island that there tribe was leaving. Karana had no choice but to go back and get him. As she reached shore, she saw the boat floating farther and farther away. Will Karana and Ramo survive the island?

Rating:

In describing the island, the author didn't talk about the island itself or why it was important to the main characters survival.

The introduction was decent, but it was more about the main character's tribe. The introduction didn’t catch my attention because there weren’t enough details to get me interested.

The book was well organized .The story doesn't go back and forth with too many subjects. The author made it very clear when switching to a new scene.

The characters in the story were interesting. When the characters were first introduced the author described them very well. You really couldn’t tell if the author was talking about a new character or a character that was already introduced.

At the end, it didn’t say whether her tribe came and got her or not. I would have enjoyed knowing what her future was like, but I think the author wanted you to imagine what happens. [Tara]
