What is keong emas?
A long time ago, lived Prince Raden Putra with his wife, Princess Dewi
Limaran. One day, Princess Dewi Limaran saw a snail in her favorite
ssflower when she was walking in the garden. So she told her servant to
threw it away. But she didn’t know that the snail was actually an old
witch. The witch cursed the princess and changed her into a golden snail
and threw it to the river until it got carried away from the palace.
In some forest lived a poor widow that made a living with
fishing. One day she didn’t catch any fish, but she found a golden snail
in the bottom of her net and bought it home. Then she put it in an
earthen pot.
The next morning, she found that her house was already clean
and many delicicous food was already reserved. She wanted to know who
did this. So, the next evening she hid herself and watched as the golden
snail grew into a beauifull lady. The widow decided that the lady was
under a spell and tried to help her First, the widow break the empty
shell of the golden snail and threw it away. Then she prayed that the
prince will be led to the hut.
Many years later, the king persuaded Prince Raden Putra to
get married again. At first the prince declined, but after sometime he
decided to searched for a wife that looked like Princess Dewi Limaran.
They passed many town but still haven’t found a wife. Until
the prince saw a small hut and decided to rest. The widow that lived
there served them with many delicicous food. When the prince praised
her, she said that it was her daughter that made it. So the prince was
asking if he could meet the daughter.
When the daughter came out, Prince Raden Putra immediately
asked her to marry him because she looked just like Princess Dewi
Limaran. But the girl shook her head and said that the man who wanted to
marry her had to obtain the holy gamelan.
The prince accepted it and went to the forest to meditated and fasted. After a hundred days the god heard him and granted his wish.
The lady then revealed that she was indeed the Princess Dewi Limaran. When The prince and The Princess was married once again, the holy gamelan played its heavenly music and broke the evil witch’s spell.
So…Prince Raden Putra and Princess Dewi Limaran Lived happily ever after.
