The new phonecards that Matav produces come in 800, 1800 and sometimes 5000Ft denominations. The private cards can be all of those, but usually carry 200Ft worth of calls. Matav has been publishing a unique set that has 500Ft worth of calls on it. Why are they doing that? The set is targeted towards students, because the cards have useful information on them from math to grammar. The official name of the set is "iskolai tantargyak" which means subjects. But the collectors just call them cheat sheet cards.
This set has obviously sold well, because the cards summarize the most important areas very well. Matav is now advertising these cards on the monthly phone bills; "Who doesn't need help with sine (sinus) and cosine (cosinus), can at least use the card as a guitar pick!"
Phonecard fair in Budapest
Most people don't know that Matav holds a successful fair every semester. The 13th Matav phonecard fair was held this past September, in downtown Budapest. The fair had auctions, giveaways, singers, phonecard casino. Several new phonecards were debuted for the fair, including the official fair card. And attendees voted for the Phonecard of 2000. The fair was held at: Budapest I., Krisztina krt. 55. MATÁV Székház, just as it will be held this upcoming Spring.
