-Norfolk issues first chip cards, which is a beautiful puzzle set.

This new set of four phonecards from Norfolk Island highlights the role of aviation in bringing people
and products to and from the Island. Norfolk Island sits strategically between Australia and New
Zealand, and although it uses Australian currency, it is closely aligned with both these neighbours
and enjoys significant tourist and commercial traffic with both. The four cards sit together to form a
background image of the Island with the airport prominently visible. Each card shows an airplane
from one of the four air service providers to Norfolk Island -
Air New Zealand
Flight West (a division of QANTAS)
Norfolk Jet (a division of Ansett Australia)
Royal Australian Air Force
Norfolk Island has previously issued magnetic phonecards on the Tamura / Anritsu system, but
recently made the decision to switch to chip-based technology. This phonecard issue is the first
release of chip phonecards by Norfolk Island, and the cards will go into immediate service at the
chip payphones already installed on the Island.
