Best Values for Immersion

Criteria:
1. A hotel or vacation destination that doesn't isolate you from the local culture

2.  "Good value" means many people in the local culture or from nearby countries can afford to return to the hotel.  This suggests that you can feel part of the local culture because you are not part of an elite.  You are one of a group of people who choose to immerse yourselves in the local culture.

3.  Not too far from civilization, since you want to be able to get to a newspaper, fax, e-mail and a grocery store now and then.

4.  Air conditioning in tropical climates.

5.  intimacy and contact with locals (proximity to local markets, ability to blend in to the crowd.

6.  Near to local restaurants (not connected to a resort hotel) where people from many countries gather.

7.  TV in the room.  Clean.

Send me your candidates for this list.  On this page I give you some suggestions.

Travel and Leisure magazine has an article about "Best Values" in hotels.  A typical hotel room costs over $200.  Here is a list to show that smaller hotels at lower prices can provide value, too.
