| How to calibrate your Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) on a Five Speed XR4Ti |
| Posted to IMON by Richard Curtis --Get engine to operating temp. --Turn off engine. --Disconnect electrical connector at IAC. --Start engine. --Set base idle to 750 rpm (some say 900 rpm) --Shut off engine --Reconnect electrical connector to IAC. --Unbolt IAC to get to TPS. --Connect jumper wire to green wire going into the TPS. --Connect digital voltmeter to jumper wire and any ground --Set DVM to 0-20 scale. --Turn ignition to ON but do not start. --DVM should read 1.0v --If not 1.0v, loosen both Philips-head screws that attach TPS to throttle body. --Turn TPS slightly to achieve exactly 1.0v (some posts have suggested 0.94) --Tighten TPS. --Move throttle through full range. You shouldn't see any spikes. I think max voltage at WOT should be around 4.5 --Turn ignition off. --Reconnect IAC; be careful of gasket. You're done. Idle should be smooth and consistent. If not, consider cleaning IAC and/or EGR. If voltage spikes occur in your TPS readings, replace TPS. |
