| Sunday May 02, 2004 Woodley Gardens Shopping Center for Coffee Montgomery College for Mustang Car Show |
| Five XRs and one Scorpio braved the elements to meet at the Woodley Gardens Shopping Center, Rockville, MD for coffee and then to attend the National Capital Area Mustang Club car show at Montgomery College Campus. We had originally planned to visit both the Mustang show and the Deutsch Marque Concours Car Show at Avenel Golf Course in Potomac, MD, where our own Mike Hughes would be showing off his vintage Mercedes but that show was cancelled due to forecast for inclement weather. Greg L, our perennial heavy lifter made it all the way in from WVA driving unbelievable distances for coffee and Merkur camaraderie. The meet also flushed from the woodwork the not often seen Chevist (he works Saturdays!) along with Damien A, Jeff W, Rob M, and Ed L, who dared to drive his super clean Scorpio in the rain. This meet was extra neat with Damien's wife and 1 year old daughter, Kaitlyn joining us which was really very cool. We hadn't seen wife Yinka in some time and everyone was having fun making the baby laugh! We drank gallons of coffee, traded repair notes and oogled over Chevist's highly detailed rally racing Sierra models. From there we drove 5 minutes to the Mustang show, which unfortunately was a bust since the foul weather put a damper on too many cars for the show. The show's food truck didn't make it either and the event organizers were reduced to ordering pizza for delivery! Nonetheless, Rob M. entered his Merkur into the show and saved the day. The show field attendant was somewhat puzzled though when Rob attempted to drive onto the lot; you can imagine the following exchange: "Sir, what kind of car is THAT?" "Its a Merkur." "Murker, I've never heard of that.... Is it a Ford?" "Of course it is!" "Prove it..." Rob quickly resorts to opening his driver's side door to reveal the Ford emblem on the rocker panel. It turns out that Rob actually won second place in Stock Ford Lincoln Mercury Class. Enuf said!
