NOVAMOG
The Northern Virginia Merkur Owners Group

Today's meet was a repeat of last year's visit to Six Flags and it was far different from last year's blustery chill!

We had six Merknuts turn out to watch the local chapter of the Porsche Club of America run their first autocross of the year.  No Merkurs were entered in the event but there was some discussion about getting ready next for next year.  The question of the day was how well our Merkurs might fare against the cars in today's event.  These included early and late model Porsches, Audi, BMWs, Corvettes, and a Ford Mustang Bullit and even an Honda Civic.  Also of note was a 2003 Nissan 350Z and one of the BMWs was a station wagon.

The course was kind of longish with most cars taking more that 60 seconds to run.  During the time we watched, the fastest time of the day was 57.4 turned in by a 1970 914 Porsche with a 1.7L engine.  The key here was a really good driving skill!

We also got a first hand look at one of the first Porsche Cayenne's (sport utility) sold in the local area.  Man that was some suspension set up on the front end with more sway bars and bushings than could be counted  The owner had the car sort of on display down near the start line.  The intake manifold on the V8 engine seemed to be made of some kind of plastic material.  So much for the steel-is-real 2.3L.

All in all, another great NOVAMOG meet.
