| Shellac Heres a brief wee interview with Bob Weston from Shellac, he doesnt say much but they are kind of stupid questions... Is everyone in Shellac healthy and well? Yes. Where are you and what are you doing? In my basement in Chicago. Office work. When will you have a new record out? How does it sound? Whenever we get a group of songs recorded that we like and that fit well together. We dont set a date. Its done when we finish it. The newer songs sound like Shellac songs. I read that you consider yourselves hobbyist musicians, do you use this term because you dont want to be considered careerist musicians? The band is not how we make a living. We all have full time jobs that support us. The band is what we do for fun. It is our hobby. It is not required to make a profit, so no business decisions enter into it. Its what we love to do. Any exciting new bands youd like to tell us about? Lustre King, Fluke Starbucker, Fugazi, Frontier... Any horrible asshole youd like to bitch about? If you cant say something nice, dont say anything. Whats so great about Converse? They make sneakers that look good and feel good. Weve all been wearing them forever. Why is vinyl better than CDs, MP3s and all that stuff? Because it sounds better. Its analog, which is the domain we humans perceive sound in. Is The Jesus Lizard song Mouthbreather really about someone from Slint wrecking Steves house? Did he kick his ass? Its about Britt Walford. (Slint drummer) So there it is, Shellac will have a new record out sometime and itll sound like Shellac. The mystery remains though, did Steve Albini kick the drummer from Slints ass? We may never know... Thanks Bob. (From May 1999) They are now- currently curating the All Tomorrows Parties festival. Last record was "1000 Hurts" from 2000. It's awesome, go get it. KILL HIM! FUCKING KILL HIM!!! |
