ALHOCEIMA is situated in the northern of the Moroccan kingdom, 330
km east of Tanger, and
150 km west of Nador, at the foot of the Rif mountains. The province of Alhoceima is one of the most beautiful regions in the
mediterranean.
The village, with more than 450.000 people, is set in a beautiful location
on the El Penon Bay on the Meditteranean coast and looks out across to the
Rif mountains and an ancient Spanish islands like the Island Nekor.
There are very few settlements along the Mediterranean coast of Morocco.
Alhoceima is one of them and is
situated in an area where the majestic Rif mountains retract.T he city was
founded by the spaniards at the beginning of this century, and was
originally a military garrison. Nowadays, tourism and fishery are the main
industries. In Fact Alhoceima is very popular among both Moroccans and
European charter tourists for its beautiful virgin beaches and the delicious
seafood. That is why they call Alhoceima also The Seafood Capital of
Morocco. Also wellknow by its fish like the sardines
Around Alhoceima you can find different
beaches. One, Quemado Beach, is even located just in front of the city. The
beaches are of fine sand and the water crystal clear water, ideal for
underwater fishing.
Alhoceima is quite lively particularly in the summer, and it offers many
opportunities for recreation. The average temperature in the summer is 30
degrees and in the winter an average of 8 degrees.
AlHoceima is equipped with first class
resorts and facilities. You can find a wide range of accommodations
including luxury flats and bungalows, straw hut villages (Club Med) and
campsites (Cala Bonita, Cala Iris).
The
Seafood Capital of Morocco
In
the harbour you can see float fishing boats equipped with huge lamparos,
while yachts are anchored in the port. At the Harbour you can enjoy some of
the best and freshest mediterranean fish anywhere. Our sardines, boquerones
and salmonetes are well renowned, they are delicious and reasonably priced.
Alhoceima is very easy to reach by car. There are several daily
touringcars links from the major cities in Morocco like Tanger, Rabat,
Casablanca and Oujda to Alhoceima. The city is also very easy to reach by
airplane. The Alhoceima-Al-Charif El Idrissi Airport, with a takeoff track
of more than 2 km, has, for example, a weekly link with the Amsterdam
Airport, Schiphol and other major cities in Europe. In the summer time there
are several flights between Alhoceima and Europe.
