"A Night At The Roxbury" Review...
Should we prepare for another SNL Bomb???
(snip)
I kinda hoped we might be watching something other than what they promised. %*#&%#*, we weren't... and boy did it suck.
"A Night at the Roxbury" is one of the most inane, poorly writen (by its two stars) comedies in a long time. I didn't laugh, I got bored and started to daze off. No plot, only something about the two head-bouncing guys from SNL trying to get in an exclusive nightclub, then one of them is forced into marriage for financial reasons by the father, then they get an idea to start their own nightclub, then they get in a fight about it on the freeway, then the two (brothers) split up and one goes to live in another bedroom, then one crashes the other's wedding, then they realize what a mistake they made by fighting, and on and on. For a movie that was only about 90 minutes, my @$$ was sure hurtin'. You know you're in trouble when Richard Grieco is the biggest name in your film and you have to resort to having your actors talk to an "offscreen" Jim Carrey. One lame sex scene had a number of junior high and high schoolers roaring- I'm sure the execs in attendance would have been sure they had a hit on their hands weren't it for all the people who kept walking out and leaving early. Ironic that the one scene the core audience really enjoyed is the one they're most likely to cut if they want a PG- 13.
Please gentlemen, no more SNL takeoffs. They've overstayed their welcome.
Note: The %$#%$# were my feeble attempt to maintain a G-rating on my site!
