29.10.2001 PANTHERS CRASH BACK TO EARTH
Despite out shooting the Bracknell Bees 38-25, the Panthers lost 5-2, so the Panthers poor reord at the Hive continues. Will we ever win at the Hive again!!. Starting netminders were Joe Watkins and Danny Lorenz (NOT Pasi Hakkinen as per Iceweb!!).
Bracknell took the lead after 5 minutes thanks to Todd Goodwin, They held the lead until the 41st minute when the Panthers levelled through Patrik Wallenberg. But 6 minutes later the Bees were back in front thanks to Daniel Ceman only for A.J. Kelham to level things again.
But it all fell apart in the last seven minutes as the Bees scored three without reply. The Bees goals came from Mark Cadotte (2) and Sam Ftorek, the Panthers will be hoping for much better in their next game which is at home on Saturday against the Bracknell Bees. |

28.10.2001 JINMAN BREAKS SCORING DUCK
Lee Jinman scored his first goal for the Nottingham Panthers last night as he helped the Panthers come from behind to beat league leaders the Belfast Gaints 3-2.
The Giants took the lead with controversial goal on 8 minutes, Ex-Panther Jeff Hoad was credited with a goal even though the net was of it's moorings when his shot hit the back of the net. However, the Panthers managed to level things 7 minutes later when Lee Jinman fired home an unstoppable shot on the powerplay.
The Panthers took the lead at 29:35 after good work by Claude Savoie along the boards who found Jinman who in turn found P.C. Drouin at the top of the crease to fire home. The lead was increased further a minute into the third period as captain Joel Poirier fired home after good work by Greg Hadden.
Belfast called a timeout at 58:24 and pulled netminder Cavallin but could not make the extra skater count until the final second when Kevin Riehl fired home with two Giants stood in the crease but the goal was allowed to stand. |

24.10.2001 PANTHERS DRAW 3-3 IN AYR
The Panthers have managed to pick up another point on the road after drawing 3-3 at the Ayr Scottish Eagles. Let's hope they can carry tonight's performance over to Saturday's home game with the Belfast Giants.
Despite falling behind after 5 mins, the Panthers hit back with goals from Savoie and Tait to lead 2-1 at the end of the first Period. Risdore levelled the game at 30:43 before Hadden put the Panthers in front again to lead 3-2 at the end of the Second. Unfortunately for the Panthers the only goal of the third period was scored by Ed Courtenany.
It took Barry Nieckar only 73 seconds to be thrown out tonight. However, I feel he did the right thing because he took Dody Wood (3rd top scorer in the Superleague) with him. According to Gary Moran, the fighting was arranged during the warm-up after the two of them exchanged words. |
|
24.10.2001 PANTHERS NEWS
The Panthers will be without Clayton Norris (Suspension) and Paul Moran (Injury) for tonight's game with Ayr. However, A.J. Kelham will continue to dress for the Panthers.
Coach Paul Adey has been happy with the way training has gone on Monday and Tuesday. The Panthers have had another Finnish player training with them the last two days but coaches Adey and Dampier have not had a good look at the player, who will skate with a BNL team due to the Panthers trip to Scotland. GM Gary Moran said the coaches will continue to check out any available player. |

20.10.2001 Drouin's Mistake Proves Costly
A mistake by P.C. Drouin with little more than 10 seconds to go cost the Panthers a point and gave the Knights a 3-2 win. Drouin trying to start one final attack for the Panthers gave the puck away at his own blue line allowing London to cycle the puck before laying it back to Mansi to fire home with 1.9 seconds to go.
The Panthers had started the game brightly and took the lead through Patrik Wallenberg who tipped Randall Weber's shot past Trevor Robins, but Ex-panther Mark Kolesar levelled the game a minute later on the Powerplay. During the second period the Panthers created plenty of chances but only had Wallenberg second goal of the game to show for it.
London Knights domianted the third period outshooting the Panthers 15-3. However, it took the Knights until the final five minutes of the period to grab the equaliser thanks to their new signing Sean Blanchard. The goal came just as the Panthers returned to full strength before Drouin's mistake gave the Knights victory. |

18.10.2001 Appeals Committee
Ban reduced to 7.
Following the decision of the Superleague to ban Clayton Norris for 10 games following an incident against the London Knights which resulted in Trevor Roenick needing stitches. The Panthers decided to appeal against the decision because they believed they had crystal clear video evidence that showed Norris was innocent.
However, The ISL Appeal Committee hearing was held this morning (Thursday 18th October 2001), and after hearing the evidence. The Appeals Committee dismissed the appeal but reduced the suspension. The suspension has been reduced from 10 games to 7 games, but the 250 fine stands.

16.10.2001 Second Shut-out for Lorenz
Belfast Giants 0 PANTHERS 1.
The Panthers have won their first ever game in Belfast thanks to a goal from Ashley Tait and a 25 shot shut out from Danny Lorenz. The win moves the Panthers of the bottom of the superleague table and above the Manchester Storm and the Sheffield Steelers.
Following the game Coach Paul Adey celebrated with a pint of Guinness and said, "I can't fault anyone tonight, I don't normally have a drink during the season, but I think this one was warranted. |

15.10.2001 News/Rumours
What Next For Panthers!
Following the disappointment of Saturday's defeat at rivals Sheffield Steelers, Some Panthers fans want to see changes made to the squad with Ex-favourites Jarret Zukiwsky and Marty Flichel being mentioned as the players they want the Panthers to sign, to replace the likes of Steve Moria and Claude Savoie (I would like to see Savoie stay). Zukiwsky is more likely to be a possible signing as he has recently been released by the Anchorage Aces, But Marty Flichel is under contract to Danny Lorenz old team the Tacoma Sabercats, so his signing seems unlikely. |
|
15.10.2001 Former Panthers.
Maybe the Panthers should look no further than Coventry and ex-player Steve Roberts, who is on fire for the Coventry Blaze. Roberts who is waiting for the situation in Newcastle to be resolved, scored two more on Sunday to help the Blaze beat Edinburgh 5-2. Since signing for the Blaze seven games ago, he has scored 9 goals and 6 helpers for 15 points, Maybe he has rediscovered the form he had at the start of his Panthers career.
Another former Panther currently doing well is Daryl Lavoie who joined the Hull Thunder during the summer, he scored and had a helper in Hull's win against Basingstoke on Sunday. Eric Lavigne also had an assist during the game. |

14.10.2001 Panthers disappoint in Defeat
The Panthers lost 6-4 in Sheffield on Saturday night and despite Greg Hadden hitting the bar which would have made it 4-4, the Panthers didn't deserve to get anything from the game.
The Panthers never got going and trailed 2-0 at the first interval (Kruse and Mansoff). However, Panthers hopes were raised when Hadden scored on the powerplay but within 5 minutes the Steelers regained their 2 goal lead through Allison and would increase the lead before Steve Moria scored a good goal thanks to great work by Weber. The Panthers hopes were raised again just four minutes into the third thanks to another good goal this time from P.C. Drouin but as the Panthers pressed for an equaliser which resulted in Hadden hitting the bar, the Steelers broke after Pope failed to keep the puck in the zone which resulted in Allison getting his second of the night. Frank Evans scored his first of the season with a minute twenty-three to go, but Bobyck sealed the win for the Steelers with an empty net goal with 25 seconds to go. |

12.10.2001 Winless Streak is Over
PANTHERS 4 Manchester Storm 2
The Panthers ended their 6 game winless streak with a comfortable 4-2 win against the Manchester Storm. The 4-2 scoreline flatters Manchester who was outshot 39 to 20.
Panthers opened the scoring after 3 minutes through a trademark slapshot from Greg Hadden and by 24:35 had seen off Mike Torchia in the Storm goal thanks to three quick goals from Poirier (PP) and a brace from Jimmy Drolet. The Storm scored 2 goals in the last five minutes as the Panthers took it easy for Saturday's game in Sheffield. |
|
12.10.2001 Marty Flichel.
Disappointing start for the Tacoma Sabercats. Last night saw Marty Flichel make his debut for the Tacoma Sabercats, unfortunately it was not a happy debut as the Sabercats lost 9-2 at the Idaho Steelheads. |

During wednesday's game against the Steelers Greg Hadden became only the second player in ISL history to score 100 goals (Ed Courtenay being the first). However Greg Hadden achievement is unique by the fact that he is the first player to score 100 Superleague goals for just one team. |

7.10.2001 Panthers 6 Knights 6
WHAT A PERIOD!!!
If the Panthers had played this season just like they did in the third period of last nights game against London, They would be top of the Superleague without question.
Trailing 5-1 at the end of the second, the Panthers came out like a different team in the third. Despite taking the lead in the first period through Wallenberg (PP), they were helpless as London scored the next 5 with ex-Cardiff favourite Ian McIntyre scoring a hat-trick. But the third period was all Panthers, Calle Carlsson and then new signing A J Kelham gave the home fans hope before Claude Savoie became the hero, netting the next two in two minutes. P.C Drouin scored the sixth for the Panthers but just as you thought the Panthers had won the game, Trevor Roenick tied the game with just 58 seconds to go. |

2.10.2001 ADEY UNHAPPY WITH OFFICIALS
Panthers' coach Paul Adey is to consider making a complaint to the Superleague about the standard of refereeing this season. Adey is still unhappy about decisions made during Sunday's defeat in Ayr. The game saw the Panthers amass 94 penalty minutes, 60 of those minutes came after the final hooter.
However, Adey has played down the prospect of trouble during tomorrow's game with the Steelers saying he is more interested in his players making their dominance tell with goals. Adey doesn't think the Steelers have as much offensive strength this season and believes the Panthers have more fire power, but they have to prove it by finding the net more regularly. |
