27.06.2002 Lorne Smith
The Nottingham Panthers have today announced that fifties legend Lorne Smith has died suddenly at his home, aged 75.

Lorne was a hard-hitting, no-nonsense defencemen in the fifties and exhibited great loyalty by sticking with the club through thick and thin. He was among the guests of honour when the team played their last game in the old Nottingham Ice Stadium. Our thoughts go to his family and friends.

Former Panther - Jeff DaCosta
Former Panthers defenceman Jeff DaCosta has re-signed with UHL side Rockford IceHogs. DaCosta, 26, put up MVP-style numbers in 2001-02. He led all IceHogs blueliners in scoring, and his efforts allowed him to garner both team MVP and Best Defenseman honors at the close of the 2001-02 campaign.

25.06.2002 Big News With Signing of Martini
The GMB Nottingham Panthers have made another massive signing in their bid for honours next season with 64", 220lbs, defenceman Darcy Martini. Darcy is a former Edmonton Oilers draft pick, he also has a couple of games in the show and has extensive experience in Europe, the AHL and the IHL. His European duties have included the elite leagues of Austria, Germany and, last year, Italy.

The Panthers are also talking with 2 more defencemen and are in detailed talks with a good two-way winger. One of the defencemen is rumoured to be from the Sheffield Steelers, with Marc Laniel the favourite.

22.06.2002 Latest from Panthers
The Panthers have this weekend sent out written contract offers to two players, the first one is for a big defenceman and the other offer is for a good two-way winger. The Panthers have also confirmed that they were talking to defenceman Brad Peddle, who yesterday agreed to stay with the Bracknell Bees.
20.06.2002 Fixtures Arranged
The Nottingham Panthers have today arranged three of the four games outstanding, this just leaves them the away game against Coventry Blaze in the Challenge Cup to be arranged.

The fixtures to be arranged today are as follows:-
Panthers @ Giants 25th September 2002
Panthers @ Eagles 20th October 2002
Panthers @ Storm 24th November 2002

17.06.2002 Latest From Panthers Camp
Following a quiet week last week, it is expected to be another quiet one this week in the Panthers camp. However, there could be some signing news later this week.

Paul Moran is expected to sign a new two-way deal with the Panthers and Solihull (formerly Milton Keynes Kings).

6.06.2002 ISL Challenge Cup
Coventry Blaze appear to have let the cat out of the bag regarding the upcoming season's Challenge Cup after issuing a press release saying they are the only FBNL team to accept a place in the competiton. The release also stated that the Blaze would line up against Nottingham Panthers, London Knights and Bracknell Bees in the group stages.

I understand that the Panthers will start the season with a home game on the 7th September against the Coventry Blaze. I also understand that the Panthers have no plans to play any Challenge matches (friendlies) before the season starts due to a tournament featuring GB at the NIC.
