7.08.2002 PANTHERS PREPARED TO WAIT
Nottingham Panthers today insisted they had not fallen behind the pace as they bid to form a championship-winning team. After being the busiest Superleague team during the early summer, the only "movement" in the past few weeks has been the news that a back injury to Darcy Martini means he will not now be coming to Nottingham.
Panthers general manager Gary Moran said: "We know the better quality defencemen available to European teams are snapped up by the German DEL in July. "By waiting until now, it means we are able to get good quality players and better value for money. "We happened to get Martini early. But it was a bonus him being a big mate of Scot Allison that we were able to do a deal when we did".
Coach Paul Adey added: "We are quite close on a couple of deals and are talking to other players, but it takes time and we want to get it right. Compared with other teams, we are well advanced in signing impact players which we intended to do from the outset. But there are more out there and we will be doing our utmost to bring the best possible team to the Ice Centre." |

6.08.2002 Panthers Launch New Shirt And Website
The GMB Nottingham Panthers have tried something new whilst maintaining tradition with their 2002-3 strip design. The traditional black and gold colours have been kept by popular demand and the simplified design, with two hoops on the sleeves, enhances the teams colours to great effect. The team crest has been reduced on the home gold strip and will appear on the left breast. Both strips, of course, bear the clubs main sponsor the GMBs logo across the chest and there will be other sponsors logos on the shirts too, including new official restaurant Dexters, Specsavers who sponsor the Panthers schools programme, and shirt manufacturer Shinedog. A club spokeswoman said : Last years simplified design went down so well with the fans and shirt sales were so popular that we decided to follow a similar theme this season. Whilst the shirt looks completely different to last year we believe it maintains that traditional hockey feel and that is important for the oldest club in the league!
The GMB Nottingham Panthers have revamped their official website. The new site was launched today (Tuesday August 6th 2002) and includes an exciting virtual tour round the ice at the National Ice Arena, home of the Panthers. The new site has been designed by Nottingham firm Metafocus. A club spokeswoman said : We have had a great website for a number of years and our thanks go out to webmaster Nev Bradshaw for all his hard work. We are lucky to be able to report that Nev will still be contributing to the new site. The new site is easy to get around and includes all the old favourites and some new ideas. Hopefully people will find it a one-stop-shop for all their Panthers information, both current and past.
The new site can be found at the old address: Panthers Official Site

1.08.2002 Martini Released
The Nottingham Panthers have today announced that defenceman Darcy Marini has been released from his contract. Martini asked to be released after injurying his back this summer.
Panthers coach Paul Adey said: Darcy was apparently working out hard in the gym in preparation for the upcoming season when he aggravated and old back injury. Hes taken medical advice and feels it would be better to hang up his skates rather than risk not being able to give 100 per cent to the Panthers. We respect his decision and wish him well. |
