The Anniversary Song
One of many songs dedicated to my wife, Debbie. This was my first real stab at song writing after years of sporadic guitar playing. I sang this a few times with my old band, "Waterloo Clyde"
When we first met had we foreseen
If we had seen a crystal ball
Love is often a wild and perilous stream
How we have kept our love afloat
The years have been harder than we ever dreamed they could be
Did we not vow, when we first wed
And on our anniversary day
Would I still be standing here today
The reality and not the dream
Would I be standing here today
Would you have loved me anyway
Would we have thought it worth it all
Peering through the glass of time
Would I still be yours, would you still be mine
At times it can carry you far away from your dreams
Through the darkest storms, in a fragile boat
Is hard at times to understand
Could be weve had a helping hand
But we made a promise a long time ago, you and me
To live the words the preacher said
And looking back, would you not say
That weve been blessed along the way
You still take my breath away
There never was, nor ever be
One as fine as you to me
Would you have married me anyway
