The Ideal American

THE IDEAL AMERICAN

What does it mean to be an American? What is the American dream? This is my idea of what a perfect American would be like. Maybe you can't be this person exactly, but the closer you become, the more you will understand what this country is all about... At least, my perspective on it.

He is extremely self-confident.
He has the power within himself to rise to prominence from nothing.
He does not expect handouts and would be insulted if any were offered.
He would never dream of burning the flag, but does not stand in the way of those who would.
He helps his country to strive for perfection, not caring that perfection will never be reached.
He never files frivolous lawsuits or tacks on extra charges. But he also refuses to settle.
He may not like everyone, but he respects everyone.
He expects nothing in return for his charity.
He is grateful to our soldiers.
He feels a connection to the history and heritage of this nation, even if he is an immigrant.
He would do anything to help the poor short of harming the rich.
He supports the will of the majority, even if he disagrees with it.
He listens willingly to what people say, even if it offends him.
He laughs at the stereotype of Americans being lazy, because he knows it isn't true.
He practices the religion of his choosing, because it is a choice.
He uses every means at his disposal to gain wealth except for dishonesty.
He dreams of financial independence.
He says the Pledge of Allegiance and pays attention to every word.
He is proud of himself and his country.
He never feels sorry for himself.
He never accepts defeat.
He smiles when he hears the term "Yankee."
He would rather die than break a contract.
He is not afraid to tell people that he disagrees with them.
He expresses his opinions passionately, but still listens to all other points of view.
He stands when he hears his or any other national anthem.
He never attends a protest without first signing a petition.
He does not fear authority figures.
He stands up for what he believes in, but keeps his mind open to change.
He never gives less than his best effort.
He is not afraid to work hard.
He can think of no one whom he considers his inferior.
He can think of no one whom he considers his superior.
He never starts a fight, but always finishes it.
He defends the weak.
He has read the Bill of Rights and understands it.
He gives refunds to unsatisfied customers.
He asks questions.
He does not believe in the word "impossible."
He sets goals, and when he reaches them, he sets new ones.
He is always ready to learn about other cultures.
He accepts on faith that every problem can and will be solved.
He does not let anger affect his judgment. Instead, he uses it a motivation in the right direction.
He always votes his conscience.
He is not afraid to be unpopular if he believes that he is right.
He knows how to use trickery to succeed, but he chooses not to.
He turns a blind eye to no truth.
He entertains any idea.
He listens to whispers and screams alike.
He never accepts his fate because he doesn't believe in fate.
He isn't afraid of fear.
He knows how to be a man, even if he is a woman.
He admires those who work hard and have earned what they have.
He envies no one.
He ignores social pressures.
He obeys the law until the day he changes it.
He uses legal resources for their intended purposes.
He is always prepared to defend himself.
He knows who and what he is.
He defines his own existence.
He never lies under oath.
He considers everything open to negotiation except liberty.
He treats a verbal contract as if it were notarized.
He applauds progress.
He wants to be a homeowner, and he wants to be self-employed.
He is willing to risk his life for a worthy cause.
He hopes to die debt-free.
He forgives, but he never forgets.
He honors those who have fallen before him.
He makes the world a better place for infinite generations to come.
He refuses to hear the word "hopeless."
He flies where others have run, runs where others have walked, and walks where others are afraid to.
He never gives up.
He believes in equitable transactions.
He is not concerned with placing blame.
He will never consider himself to be a failure.
He does not see any fundamental difference between the rich and the poor.
He does not need to share power, because others will bring their own power.
He is a god of his own destiny.
And he never, ever, under any circumstances, breaks his word!
