"It is a widespread illusion that we are safe and secure in our lives and stable in our lifestyles and that great tragedies happen only in the distant past or far overseas or in works of fiction or in the worst case, to people we do not know.  This is an illusion easily shattered by sudden events, and yet, it is an illusion just as easily regained by the passage of time.  It is this illusion which allows us to go about our daily lives, and it is the minutia of our lives which makes the preservation of lives and the preservation of freedom, liberty and justice as important as we all know it to be.  For what is freedom worth if that freedom is insecure, and what is security worth if it treads upon freedom?  It is a delicate balance we maintain between two fundamental necessities of existence.  Never hesitate for an instant to defend the freedom of yourself or your fellow members of the human race, nor hesitate for an instant to enjoy your freedom and to enjoy the illusion that the world is stable and protected around you while this illusion lasts.  Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness were not rights granted or guaranteed to us by our government leaders, nor by our Declaration of Independence, nor were they endowed by our God or gods.  Rather, they are granted by the simple fact that sentient beings exist in this multiverse, and they are guaranteed by the fact that we are willing to stand up and defend ourselves against any person or force which threatens those inalienable rights or way of life.  The existential truth is as follows:  We are only as free as we are willing to fight for.  For this thing, mankind would travel to hell and back a thousand times over, and the power to take pleasure in the little things of life without feeling the weight of unseen shackles of danger or oppression is our reward.  The safety and security of a free way of life is the paramount concern of all sentient beings, and no man nor god nor convoluted line of reasoning can convince me otherwise."

These words were put in place of the "Emperor's Words of Wisdom" following the attack on September 11, 2001, and kept up for at least the following two weeks.
