Militant Protests Continue in Indonesia

On October 9, hundreds of students from the University of Indonesia continued their daily protest in front of the U.S. embassy in Jakarta. The students demanded that President Megawati Sukarnoputri's government stop its support of the U.S.-led aggression against Afghanistan. Placards read: "Save Afghanistan," "Save the World from Global Terrorism" and "Take Bush to an International Tribunal."

The previous day, the police fired weapons into the air and used tear gas to disperse hundreds of protesters. Other anti-U.S. demonstrations are also taking place in several regions, including Sulawesi, Java and Sumatra.
