The Resolution adopted at the Peace Rally held on 27 March 2003 at IIT Kharagpur

“ During the last one week the Allied forces led by the US and Britain have been carrying on a brutal attack on the people of Iraq in blatant defiance of U.N.Charter and in violation of accepted norms of civilised society. This is a unilateral aggression aimed at controlling the oil reserves of the Arab world interfering with the sovereignty of an independent nation. The teachers, students, staff and families of the IIT community condemn this barbarous attack on humanity and the attempt to cripple the international organisation like the UN. We demand an immediate withdrawal of the US-led occupation forces, the restoration of peace and and normalcy of life in Iraq, and the recognition of the right of the people for determination of their own destiny.

Today we are living in a global village and are preparing ourselves to be World Citizens, where international brotherhood will be our goal. While we observe with deep concern the mounting loss of civilian lifeand civic amenities in Iraq, we are deeply touched by the unprecedented display of people’s protests allover the world, including the US and UK. We appeal to all to lend wholehearted support to this International Peace Movement.”
