| Now here's a mod that will make some of you crazy, I'm sure. When I moved to Tallahassee in 1995, I took my jeep out for a drive. I had driven it daily in Panama City. Tally is a much larger city and it scared the heck out of me. The jeep was used to stopping when it got around to it. The brakes just weren't up to the task. I have had AF Master mechanics work on my brakes and nothing seemed to work or if it did, required adjustment about every hundred miles. |
| So the jeep sat forlorn in my garage for almost 5 years. Then during the winter/spring of 2001 I decided to resurrect the ol' girl again. I discarded the original brakes and put on discs brakes on all four corners. This is an easy conversion that is mostly bolt up using GM and Jeep parts. I used the info from Chuckp's website. You will have to grind a little metal off of the front knuckles to ensure clearance of the calipers but it is worth it in stopping power! The only drawback was that I was unable to run my stock 16 inch wheels and rubber. So for now it runs in civvy shoes. I have found a source for 7.00x15 NDT tread and I am thinking about putting those on but the civvy tires do stop the jeep much better. |
