| On a whim, Matt and Nick decided to restart the band in Fall of 2001. With a new drummer (assuming Adrian was too busy at a local college to play) and new trombonist lined up, the band was again ready to take off. However, when the alternate drummer fell through, Adrian miraculously offered to play for the band again. Not Lenny then resumed practice with Matt on guitar/vocals/songwriting, Nick on bass/vocals/songwriting, Ryan on tenor, and Adrian on drums/even sexierness. Wanting a bigger sound in the horn section, Not Lenny recruited local Badass tenor kid Frankie and his trombone-toting friend Robbie (commonly referred to as "Wanky"). When Wanky insisted on taking sports over music (very taboo) the band had to let him go. The band is still on good terms with good ol' Wanky, but he just didn't work out. After coaching former trombonist Steve into putting his "balls" into his trombone playing, he rejoined Not Lenny in a momentus ceremony. However, soon after the tenor sax player had to resign. Burnam decided there was no longer any place in his heart for ska. He played a few tunes in the 2001/2002 New Years show, then resigned. Fortunately the badass tenor kid had more than stepped up and did a fine job. With the new lineup (Nick, Matt, A Dawg, Frankie, Steven fucking murphy), Not Lenny finally put on a legitamately awesome show at the battle of the bands. Sufficive to say, they rocked harder than ever before. Things seemed to be finally getting comfortable with the band. Then, tragety struck. Well it was sort of tragic I suppose...out of the blue, NL sex machine Adrian decided (not a week before a show planned for the Cactus Club, mind you) that the band wasnt doing much for him (or anyone). Our heros were left without a drummer, smashing their plans to not really do anything. Rumor has it that good ol' pimp maestro is in a 'hella tight' metal band now to make his castle (ask any NL member) feel right at home. Should be interesting. Nick and Matt auditioned a few drummers, played a damn good show with Kyle (ex Fall'n'up drummer), but then Matt and Nick relocated to Hayward, CA. Anyway, Not Lenny always prevails. Being that core members Matt and Nick have moved to Hayward, the San Jose version of NL had to be stopped. Though, this is a ground breaking move, because for the first time Matt and Nick left NL members on good terms. It certainly should be noted that Franky on tenor and Stephen Fucking Murphy on trombone has by far been the best horn section in NL yet. They both worked hard, learned their parts, and most importantly played well and with lots of balls...it is unfortunate they could not be brought with the band to Hayward, they will be missed... . Well, here we are today. After Adrians quitting, the band went on somewhat of a Hiatus, and Matt and Nick have begun trying to put together a band in Hayward...this time....well the two band leaders have yet to get it totally right concerning band personel, so we will just see what happens. They've been writing some new, truly badass songs, so we shall see if anything good at all comes about... |
