Chapter Five

The Decision

Aiden gazed up at the path. Crystal was out of sight and he already missed her. He plodded over to the tree that his knapsack was lying with the egg safely put inside it. A laugh escaped his mouth as Aiden tried to take his mind off of Crystal.

Everytime he tried to leave the thought of her, a memory of her silky brown hair and pure brown eyes hovered like a fog in his thoughts. Then, thoughts of her gentle laugh and gracious smile joined thoughts of Crystal's beauty. It seemed as though Aiden were trapped in thought of her and was unable to escape.

He shook his head impatiently and his eyes came across an object on the ground. It was the diary that Crystal constantly wrote in.

With much curiousity, Aiden walked over to it, crouched down and picked it up.

Aiden glanced around quickly to see that no one was watching before turning to the first page.

Dear Diary, I am so glad that I have this diary to write in. I fear that my life isn't known as the perfect life. My parents are abusive and cannot control their alcohol intake. I see little of my siblings due to their constant drug smuggling and drug abuse. It seems as though I am alone. That is, I WAS alone. Now I have Chad Davis. He is the love of my life without contest. I love him. We found each other in the park when I was scrounging for food. He told me that he could help me so I followed him. Chad brought me to his house and started to kiss me. I couldn't stop kissing him. He whispered between kisses that I would always be his girl. Day after day, he took me to his house and we showed each other how much we loved one another. Each day, I fell more and more in love. I had never had a boyfriend before that had wanted such a physical relationship. And Chad made me feel wanted. He made me feel safe and told me I was on occasion. We have been dating for months now and I have never been happier. He tells me that someday, we will get married.

Aiden stared at the words on the page for a while stunned with what he saw. He studied them as if they would change, as if they were not the real words written.

His heart sank and he closed the book slowly and held it. He gazed at the leather strap that locked it and the indents on the cover that read "My Diary". He stroked it longingly and sighed as he pocketed the diary.

Aiden would have cried if it weren't for the sound of footsteps coming down the path towards him.

A peaceful voice sang out with the footsteps and a beautiful song echoed through the trees. Aiden could not make out the words but figured that it was a song that Crystal wrote for Chad.

Suddenly, Aiden noticed the figure that came to be Crystal walking towards him. Her hair trailed behind her and the gentle breeze blew through it as she walked. He loved the way that her lips moved with each word that she sang and how perfectly they formed the words.

Aiden could not help but want her in so many ways that he could not list at once. He craved her attention and love and knew that he would stop at all odds to get it.

Love was the only explanation that Aiden could gather as he pondered his emotions. He knew that he was in love and he could not stand the thought of Chad.

'I will just have to make her see that I can love her more than Chad...' he thought inside of his head.

Crystal smiled at Aiden when she was close enough.

"Did you have a nice walk?" Aiden asked.

Crystal sighed and said, "It was lonely by myself."

Aiden grinned warmly and put his arms around her. "I hope that you are not lonely now."

Crystal closed her eyes. "No. Now I am not."
