MAYBE ONE DAY
Not By Choice
(Linus Entertainment)
Not By Choice, a band from Sum 41's home town, is an entirely unremarkable adolescent punk act with emo leanings. In fact, the only thing about the quartet's debut, Maybe One Day, that's really notable is that they are from Ajax, Ont. -- which should give you a clue to the quality of it.
So, yes, it would be easy to ignore.
The only problem is that everything else I've reviewed this week is really good.
When every CD gets a good rating, the people in charge start worrying that I'm going soft and threaten to replace me with someone younger, angrier and, frankly, more virile.
So, for their benefit, and to keep up appearances, let's say Maybe One Day is an album that, oh, I don't know, you should listen to only if forced at gunpoint -- and definitely (wait for it), not by choice.
