It is a true learning experience to perform in a venue such as the MAI during the Fringe. Fringe rules allow only 30 minutes before the performance to set up and 15 minutes to strike the set and clear out afterwards. With a dozen scene changes, the people doing setup had to keep on their toes. We feel very fortunate to have been selected to participate in the 2004 Montreal Fringe Festival.We would like to thank the many people who took the time after the show to pass on their comments. The majority of you, who had never been to the Fringe before, were very appreciative of the way an original story with very little scenery could get you so involved in the lives of Esm�, Sophie and Valentin.

About the Play
Things aren�t always as they seem in this tale of romance between a lonely journalist and the enchanting stranger she meets in the park. Set in the late 1980s, at a time when Communist walls were crumbling in Eastern Europe, "Not A Fairy Tale" explores the themes of love and truth amid political oppression. Intrigued by Valentin�s stories of life in Romania, Esm� decides to write an article for her magazine, but can�t confirm many of his claims. Who is he really? And how much of his tale is she willing to believe? The search for love becomes a quest for truth, as fact and fantasy become intertwined.

7 DOF Productions is a Montreal-based theatre company, focused on the development and production of original full-length works. In case you were wondering, the company�s name is derived from a kinematics term, �degrees of freedom�, used to describe infinite possibilities for motion in 3-dimensional space.
