The punk scene in Toronto has had troubles over the last couple of years. Ontariopunk.com has held shows to increase the population of punk "show-goers." These shows allow young bands to showcase their talent in front of a crowd that is more-than-willing to listen. The Kathedral and The Opera House are popular venues for shows. On Friday, February 22nd/2002, Ontariopunk.com held "Punkfest" that proved to be one of their best shows reaching the maximum of 200 people.
13 bands were lined up and ready to play although only 9 attended. The anticipated bands "Suburban Underdog" and "I.M.R.U" put on fantastic shows. The crowd was jumping around when "I.M.R.U" hit the stage and started chanting for them to continue. "Suburban Underdog" played a 6-song set with no encore although they were asked for one. They were also one of the only bands that were recorded live.
"In It For The Shoes" got the crowd warmed up with a little fireworks and a toilet seat that proved to be a huge success. "None of the Above" pulled out a solid performance with pure originality. They were the first band to get a mosh-pit going as the hype and excitement in this band had the crowd begging for more. Not much can be said about the opening band who shall remain ...unsaid. Ruining Weezer's "Undone," the crowd of possibly 30 people (at the time) were not pleased. "Horny Goldfish" played an 8-song set of the punk/ska genre. The saxaphone and trumpets added that bit of ska everyone waits patiently for. This band of 7 obviously talented folk were my favorite for the night.

Overall the show was awesome. This proves the punk scene is not dead.
