Moon Shadow
Chapter Seven

It was around 1am that Joey heard the banging on her door. She got up groggily, grabbing her robe, and went to investigate who was making the noise. A faint glow from her living room guided Joey through the darkness although Joey knew she had switched off all the lights after Jen had left and she had gone to bed. Cautiously Joey walked forward, her gun concealed but ready, just in case. As she approached the light Joey saw the huddled figure sprawled across her couch eating the leftover pizza that Joey had place din the fridge.

“You know, you could have warmed that up in the microwave.” Joey remarked as she settled down next to the figure.

“I like cold pizza.” The man shrugged giving Joey his patent Witter smile.

“So what brings you to my apartment, this time of the night?” Joey asked.

“I was hungry.” Pacey’s stomach grumbled in response. “And I knew you would have food.”

“Unlike that pathetic place you call home.” Joey agreed as she snuggled closer to Pacey while taking a bite out of his pizza slice.

“Hey! Get your own!”

“Technically it’s mine.” Joey reminded Pacey.

“Well it’s mine now.” Pacey replied as he stuffed the remainder of the slice into his mouth.

“Gawd you’re such a slob.” Joey complained.

“An adorable slob.” Pacey qualified before his mouth descended onto Joey’s.

He tasted like pizza; mushrooms, pepperoni and cheese.

He tasted like Pacey.

She moaned into Pacey’a mouth savoring the flavors that tantalized her tastebuds.

Pacey placed tiny butterfly kisses across Joey’s face before he settled on nibbling her lower lip. She gasped at the sensation as her body moved closer to his as if been pulled by an unknown, unexplainable and yet undeniable gravitational force.

Suddenly Joey pushed Pacey away, panting a little, as she tried to sit up and readjust her clothes.

“I thought we weren’t going to do this anymore?” Joey asked.

“We aren’t. We’re not.” Pacey agreed.

“Then what was that?”

“That was just a momentary lapse in control.”

“Good.” Joey said. “So it won’t happened again.”

“Never.” Pacey affirmed even as their lips moved towards the other’s and their mouths met in another frenzy of passion.

This time Pacey pulled away.

“Sorry. That wasn’t meant to happen.” Pacey apologized, his hand gently stroking Joey’s arm. “Just another lapse.”

“We’ve got to learn to control those.” Joey remarked as her hands played with Pacey’s hair.

“I missed you last night.” Pacey confessed. “I missed your warm body next to the mine and your presence when I woke up. I couldn’t go to sleep. I was tormented with fantasies.”

“I thought you were worried about my safety?” Joey teased.

“That too.” Pacey nodded.

“Jen knows.” Joey announced, somewhat abruptly.

“Jen knows what?”

“Jen knows about us.”

“How do you know?” Pacey asked.

“She asked about our sex life.”

“She’s always been asking about our sex life, Jo.” Pacey comforted. “Even before anything happened.”

Joey sighed. “I’m just being paranoid. All this hiding and sneaking around…”

“Do you regret us though?”

“No.” Joey’s eyes were soft. “I couldn’t ever regret what we’ve shared, Pace.”

“I needed to hear that.” Pacey confided. “Because what we have, it isn’t just sex Jo. It’s something much more.”

She closed her eyes and buried her head into Pacey’s shoulder. “Take me to bed, Pacey.”

Joey’s robe fell to the ground as the lights dimmed and the room darkened.

“Morning.” Pacey greeted as Joey’s eyes fluttered open.

“Morning.” Joey mumbled sleepily.

Pacey kissed the top of Joey’s forehead as he sat down on the bed. “Did you have a good night’s sleep?”

“From what I remember.” Joey answered coyly. “We didn’t get much sleep.”

“How could I forget.” Pacey smiled as he placed a tray in front of Joey.

“What’s this?” Joey asked curiously.

“Breakfast in bed.”

“Is it safe to eat?” Joey asked suspiciously as she carefully examined the blueberry pancakes.

“You never know if you never try.” Pacey teased as he cut the pancakes into pieces.

With a piece of blueberry pancake on a fork Pacey tantalizing waved the delicious morsel past Joey’s nose before he popped it into his mouth, smacking his lips with relish.

“Hhhmmm. Ooooohh.” Pacey moaned. “This tastes so good.”

Placing another piece of blueberry pancake into his mouth, Pacey continued to make ecstatic faces. After a few moments of watching Pacey, Joey could not take it any more. Quickly her mouth descended, kissing Pacey hard on the mouth, sucking his lower lip as her tongue probed for entrance. Instinctively Pacey opened his mouth allowing Joey admittance. It was Pacey’s mistake. Before he could realize what was happening, Joey had swiped the piece of pancake from his mouth and began to chew on the tasty morsel.

“Hhhmmm.” Joey moaned. “You’re right Pace. This tastes delicious.”

Scowling at Joey and sulking just a little, Pacey watched wordlessly as Joey continued to feast on the blueberry pancakes.

“That wasn’t very nice of you.” Pacey complained.

“Awww…poor baby. Did I upset you?” Joey baby-talked to Pacey. “Here let me feed you.”

Carefully Joey fed the pieces of pancake to Pacey, alternatively eating some morsels of pancake herself until the plate was empty. Looking up Joey giggled as she realized that little drops of blueberry syrup had fallen onto Pacey’s chin forming an adorable glob of purple on the left side of his chin. Flicking her tongue out Joey licked at the sticky, sweet substances as she cleaned the mess off Pacey’s face.

“Look like someone’s a messy boy today.” Joey teasingly scolded as Pacey gasped at the feel of her tongue.

“Guess I’ll just have to get cleaned up.” Pacey commented as he pulled Joey closer for a kiss.

The lower part of Pacey’s face was still a little sticky with small amounts of blueberry syrup and as Joey and Pacey indulged in a kiss, Joey’s face stained with the tiniest purple dots. Laughingly, Joey pushed Pacey away as she tried to wipe the sticky sweetness off her face. Pacey grinned at Joey’s attempts which only served to smear the tiny dots of purple across her face.

Out of nowhere both Pacey’s and Joey’s pagers began to sound simultaneously and they both awkwardly got out bed, rummaging around to find their pagers and read the message.

“We better get cleaned up.” Joey spoke seriously, the light-hearted, romantic moment spoilt.

“I’ll clean up this mess while you take a shower.” Pacey offered.

“Okay.” Joey agreed without looking at Pacey as she disappeared out of the bedroom and into the bathroom.
