Clark's Outpost- Tioga, Texas

Clarks.jpg (16605 bytes)

Clark's Outpost is one of those places that looks REALLY raggedy on the outside, but turns out to be a diamond in the rough. Its a small BBQ restauraunt, located in the tiny town of Tioga, Texas, near Lake Ray Roberts. Celebrities, including Dallas Sports Stars, have been known to charter helicopters and fly up to Clarks to sample the incredible eats.  Hollywood celebrities, including Christie Brinkley, have been know to visit the restaurant when in town.

On nice weekends in the spring and fall its wall to wall bikes parked outside, so the managment and staff are very biker friendly.

Bikers, ranchers, and the wealthy elite all get their fingers greasy together - A little picture of America!.

Directions:

1. Take Hiway 5 North, from Plano. You will pass through Allen, and then Mckinney.

2. North of Mckinney, look for FM 543. Go left here and  stay on this road until you reach Weston. Be careful in Weston.... the town was originally laid out inbetween two huge ranches back in the 1800s, and the road takes a couple of really hard right angle turns.

3. In Weston, turn left onto FM 455. This road will take you to Pilot Point. Enjoy the ride... there are LOTS of curves and high scenic spots!!

4. At Pilot Point, turn right onto 377. Only about 6 miles left to go. Now that you are headed North, you will cross over part of Lake Ray Roberts. Shortly after crossing the lake, you will see the beginnings of Tioga.... not alot to it, so be on the look out for Clarks on your right.  If you reach FM 121, you've missed it and gone too far.

As a change of pace, for the trip back, you can follow this route:

1. Go north from Clark's on 377 to FM 121. Watch for it, because it comes up pretty fast.

2. Go East on FM 121. You'll see that Tioga is larger than you thought :) Once you leave Tioga, the road winds through the countryside until you reach the town of Gunter.

3. In Gunter, you will go south on Highway 289 (which is the same as Preston Road, in Dallas, BTW). If its still daylight, make sure you take a moment and look to the west.... this is one of the highest points in Collin County and you can see a long, longggg way.

4. If you stay on Highway 289, you will soon find yourself in familiar West Plano.
