It's staring at me glaringly from my book And it strikes me first as obvious just who the couples are And then I remember that we never were Is this a fault of memory, or were we faulty then? Should we look it over again? What I see in this photograph is how we used to feel But history denies what these eyes say is real Is my wishful memory misreading the signs? Or is your hand hidden in mine?
