Handout:

Note: These are just suggestions.   If you wish to do something else, consult the teacher during class tomorrow.

Note: All Students must submit a proposal outline indicating the option they are pursuing.  You will submit an incremental update on your progress during the week.

Possible writing assignments:

Reporting Essay: This involves writing a formal 5 paragraph essay.  This essay must adhere to the standards of this style, such as topic sentences in each paragraph, an introductory paragraph which outlines the paper, and a concluding paragraph that wraps up the thesis.  The topic can be anything related to your text, either historically, socially, philosophically, etc.

Thematic Journal: Write several journal entries (at least three) which take place over a period of time involving the events described.  Choose who the author is and then role-play the entries using specific facts gathered from the reading.  Separately, list the facts used in your writing.  This list should include at least 10 items.   Students can write in the style of their text if the so choose.

Poem: Students can write a few poems (two pages of material).  These would involve the events of your topic.  These can be in the style of other poems you’ve read, and you will get extra credit if you cite this.

Short skit/reenactment/play: Students can collaborate on a skit if you wish.  However, the amount of work involved will be greater as there are more people involved.  You have to write out the script for the presentation which should equal 5-7 minutes.  The subject will be inspired by the historical content of your text.

Presentation: Students can choose to opt out of the formal essay by writing an outline which summarizes the material relevant to their topic.  The presentation should be 5 minutes.  This outline would list all the relevant content of the presentation, and should be substantial.
