| The Big Games: N.E. Chowderheads (2-3) 108.35 over Pirates (2-3) 81.79 In the a game in which both teams needed, the Chowderheads had a great game as they cling to hope of a playoff spot. With two teams ahead in the division and the second place team in the NFC East at 4-1, the Chowderheads need every win they can get. They still have the Argonauts and AABC in weeks 8 and 9, respectivley, so they have a chance to prove they belong. Meanwhile, the Pirates needed a win to keep pace with the Spartans, but insead are still tied for the top wild card spot in the AFC. With the Bandits and Columbus struggling, the door may remain wide open even if their struggles continue next week against Toronto. Flaming Stewies (4-1) 83.22 over Columbus Liquid Courage (2-3) 70.43 One of four wins by the NFC over the AFC this week came in this low scoring affair. The Stewies did have 5 players in double figures, but none of them scored better than 15 points. Meanwhile, Kurt Warner put up 17 for Columbus, but the best anyone else on the team could manage was 9. The result of the game keeps the Stewies one game behind the red-hot Roncos and 2 games up on 3rd place in the Wild Card. Meanwhile, the Liquid Courage are 6 points out of the 4th playoff spot, trailing the Bandits and Pirates in the standings. The Liquid Courage has the winless Gappers next while the Bandits and Pirates have very tough matchups. This column could feature the Wild Card leading Liquid Courage next week. The Upsets: Hotsauce (2-3) 106.36 over Toronto Argonauts (4-1) 89.63 The Dragon Slayer strikes again! For the second straight week, Hotsauce has beaten an unbeated team. This included last week's victory over AABC which was the first Hotsauce victory of the year. Now Hotsauce is 8th in points overall and has two cake opponents before trying to upset another powerhouse in the Stewies in week 8. And these are by no means cheap victories, as Hotsauce has scored 105 and 106 in the two victories while AABC and TA hovered around 90. There is still a long road back into the playoff picture, but Hotsauce has turned into one of the most exciting stories of the year. Mill Creek Bulldogs (2-3) 92.19 over El Paso Bandits (2-3) 67.23 What is going on in the AFC? Apparently no team is willing to claim the Wild Card as the Bulldogs are one of four teams tied for the top spot after upsetting the Bandits. Meanwhile, the alleged hex placed on the Bandits appears to be a reality. The "Curse of the Peterbino" as Petorians call it involved the hiring of witch doctors upon the relocation of the Petoria Griffins. The curse states that the El Paso Bandits will never reach the AFC title game again which was the final game played under the Griffin banner. This is the third year in a row which has seen the Bandits collapse mid-season and they have failed to finish with a winning record since their final season in Petoria. So what does the future hold for the Bandits? Luckily, the AFC has been underachieving all year so the Bandits might be able to slip into the playoffs. However, they will be facing the Chowderheads and the Ronocs in weeks 7 and 8. |
