| The Big Games: Somerville Spartans (2-2) 105.97 over El Paso Bandits (2-2) 47.80 Spartan dominated the Bandits once again as the rivalry is a little too one-sided to be considered a real rivalry. In their fourth matchup, the Spartans improved to 4-0 against the Bandits with the 58-point victory. Bandits managment is pointing fingers at who to blame but there are a lot of places to point as only two players scored more than 7 points. Meanwhile, the Spartans made sure this one wouldn't be close with a huge game from Steven Jackson and great support all around with 5 others over 7 points, including 4 over 10. As for the Bandit managment, they have to be looking to shake things up after this disapointing loss since last year started 3-0, but dropped 7 of their last 10. The first loss came at the hands of the Spartans. Toronto Argonauts (4-0) 142.23 over Columbus Liquid Courage (2-2) 43.44 After what seems like a flukey pair of wins, the CLC hit a wall in week 4. The Argonauts put this game away early with huge games from Brett Favre and Larry Johnson. Those two combined to beat the entire CLC team with 62 points. Tack on 4 more 10+ guys and you have the best scoring week of the year. As for the CLC? Zero points from 6 starters and only 3 guys over 7 points. Kicker Josh Scobee was the leading scorer this week, but when you're playing the Argonauts, he shouldn't be the one scoring all the points. This week's 98.79 point victory for Toronto is a new league record. The Upsets: Hotsauce (1-3) 105.69 over Anal at Bandcamp (3-1) 90.95 In an incredible upset, Hotsauce delivers their first win of the season against AABC after being written off in this column last week. It has been a rough season for Hotsauce, who ranks 8th in total points despite being the second to last team to pick up their first win. How did they do it? In a post-game press conference, manager Jimmy credited the huge game his defense played, picking up 18, along with a very strong ground attack (Edgerrin James: 22, Chris Johnson: 18). While AABC won't be the first team to finish 13-0, this week is still a sign of how scary this team is. Without their top performer in Westbrook or franchise QB Carson Palmer, the team still scored 90+. And don't rush off to credit their replacements, as Palmer started anyway and Westbrook's sub had 0.05 points this week. Capt Acorn (2-2) 81.31 - N.E. Chowderheads (1-3) 69.29 Remarkably, this was the closest matchup this week. The heavily favored Chowderheads now have a lot of ground to make up as they fall 2 games back in their division and in the wild card. The Captain got just enough from his starters this week to have a respectable score as 4 starters had 10+ with the top performer turning in 13. The Chowderheads may have overlooked Capt Acorn this week, proclaiming victory before the matchup. The Chowderheads were expecting huge games from J.T. O'Sullivan and Reggie Bush, who combined for 9 points this week and not even Steve Slaton's 19 could tow the whole load. Help is not on the way as the Chowderheads face the Pirates in week 5 in what is shaping out to be a must win game. |
