Free Agency 2007
Here it is, the second round of free agency for the league, and the first year of rookie bidding.  There have been some big names moving around as well as some rookies signed to big contracts.  Always with free agents, there are worries about how they will pan out, and as teams confidently bid this off-season, here's a look to see if those bids are going to pay off.
The Rookies
Joseph Addai
$18 for 4 years
Flaming Stewies
The most expensive player to come out of rookie bidding returns to the Stewies for another playoff run.  The Stewies were ready for the cap hit Addai would create, but this explosive running back could be one of the best next year.  With the status of Rhodes up in the air, there is a risk with Addai, but the reward if he ends up on his own in Indy is far greater.  Addai, along with the rest of the Stewies, will be looking again for a strong performace in the playoffs for the third straight year.

Laurence Maroney
$13 for 3 years
Hotsauce
Hotsauce is another team with cap problems, with $29 set aside for two RB's who won't be contributing much fantasy value this year in Tiki Barber and JJ Arrington.  Other than those two, the Hotsauce roster is still filled out nicely and Maroney should provide the punch it will be missing from Tiki.  At 6-7 they barely got into the playoffs, but look for Hotsauce to make more moves this off-season to compete, but with his ultimate goal set for 2008

Reggie Bush
$17 for 5 years
NE Chowderheads
The Chowderheads have more than their fair share of cap troubles.  Some managers thought because the Chowderheads have a quarter of their total cap going to guys on waivers, that Bush could be available.  However, the Chowderheads were smart and signed Bush long term, hoping he can help turn his team around like he has helped turn the Saints around.  He'll be a great fantasy player next year, and the price he's paying will be justified.

Vince Young
$5 for 5 years
Somerville Spartans
The Spartans have their franchise QB set to replace Mark Bulger from last season and Trent Green this season when he is ready.  The Spartans got a real steal here picking up a cheap Pro Bowl QB for a long time.  Young doesn't have the weapons that Leinart has, but his talents alone can carry the Titan offense and put up some great fantasy numbers.  And for half the price of Leinart, this was an easy sign for the Spartans
Rating: 9/10
Deangelo Williams
$13 for 5 years
Detroit Wolverines (Traded to Finsmagic)
The Fins got a new weapon to avenge one of the worst single seasons in the history of the league.  Williams rounds out a solid group at RB for the Fins, with Shaun Alexander and Michael Turner as well.  This strength will have to carry this team as they are nearly capped out and have just over half the roster full.  If Williams can fight off the competition in Carolina, the Fins should be on the upswing this season.

Matt Leinart
$11 for 5 years
El Paso Bandits
The Bandits had a promising roster at the beginning of the season, and was strong in '05, but '06 turned into a disaster.  After starting the season in last place in the league, the Bandits turned it around, creating hope for '07.  By trading for Leinart, he'll be set at QB for a long time as the Cardinals offense is set to be one of the best in the league.  This is the price for a top QB in the league and Leinart won't disapoint his owner.

Santonio Holmes
$7 for 5 years
Columbus Liquid Courage
Holmes is cast off again after being claimed on waivers then bid on and released.  His value this past season was not very high, but with a chance to start along with Hines Ward, his value could see a great increase in the near future.  This coming year might not be the one to get him going, but he'll get a chance to start sometime over this contract.

Vernon Davis
$7 for 5 years
Pirates
The Pirates loaded up their TE by taking Davis from the Argonauts.  However, as good of a TE Davis can be, he is still limited at his position in terms of fantasy value.  The price he paid, including the draft pick, is high for Davis, but the young TE should be solid for years down the road.

Maruice Jones-Drew
$14 for 2 years
AABC
AABC got away with one here.  The late first rounder from last year outplayed most of the guys picked in front of him, and went for less than the top tier backs.  Jones-Drew is going to be the man this year in Jacksonville and will easily exceed the value of his contact.

Free Agents
Corey Dillon
$6 for 1 year
Toronto Argonauts

Make no mistake, Dillon still has something left in the tank.  This will probably be his last year, at least his last productive one, and he'll be ready to contribute to the Argonauts strong and deep RB pool.  Dillon joins Larry Johnson and Rudi Johnson, and won't be expected to be the man every week.  For the role he'll be playing, Dillon is a great addition to this team.
Rating 6/10
Marvin Harrison
$18 for 1 year
AABC

One more year of Harrison is what AABC is going to get after a fierce bidding sequence over him.  This next year could be Harrison's last productive one, as Reggie Wayne will soon overtake the #1 WR spot in Indy.  As long as Manning is healthy, Harrison will be a valuble part of AABC who will be looking to improve on two already impressive seasons.
Rating 7/10
Edgerrin James
$19 for 3 years
Somerville Spartans

James showed some life late in the season, and he'll get paid the big bucks for it.  The Spartans have put together and impressive staff at RB as Edge joins Stephen Jackson and Brandon Jacobs.  While James cost quite a bit of cash, this signing makes the Spartans an even stronger team than they were before and will be good enough to get over the hump into the playoffs for the first time

Steve McNair
$3 for 1 year
Roasted Tinkerbells

Here's another example of a veteran QB going to a team with undeveloped youth.  The Tinkerbells have Jason Campbell and Charlie Frye ready to go and now McNair can fill the void until Campbell and Frye are good options.  This isn't the most impressive QB rotation, but it will work for the Tinkerbells this year

Trent Green
$3 for 2 years
Somerville Spartans

Green might be reaching the end of his rope, but fits the bill for the Spartans.  With his other options being Vince Young and Kellen Clemens, Green will be the man to hold that spot until the other two are ready for weekly play.  While Young is almost ready now, the Spartans how have the option of rotating the two QB's for matchups, instead of just one every week.
