Welcome, n00b!

Updated 11/4/05

So you wanna post to the bigwolfoncampus.org forum, eh? Well, it seems you'll need to learn a few things about proper etiquette, how to use the forum, and maybe we'll throw a few of the "in-jokes" in here for you, too! If this seems like to much for you to read, don't bother coming back to the BWOC forum. After all, you're going to be reading a lot there, as well.

Board Gods

First off, you should know about Board Gods. Here is Rickycat's explanation of Board God ranking:

If you've been here less than a month you have the rank of a Worm.
If you've been here for 1-3 months you have the rank of a Cat.
If you've been here for 3-6 months you have the ranking of a Dog.
If you've been here for 6-10 months you have the ranking of a Human.
If you've been here for 10-12 months you have a ranking of a Dragon.
If you've been here for 12+ months you're a Board God.
____________
Worms are the lowest ranking, we look down upon you. You have no rights for anything except if the others tell you you can. Get his quick fact "You have no rights unless the Cats-Gods tell you you have". You have no reign over anybody else, you are nothing yet.
____________
Cats, while not being the lowest rank, are still the little people with some respect. You have more rights than the Worm, like not being made fun of as much. That's about it. Besides ruling over the Worm rank, you rule nothing more. Get used to it.
____________
Dogs have more freedom, they can post multiple different posts without being stamped as Gai. They also can be forgiven more if they've shown Gai. You rule over the Cats and Worms, nothing else.
____________
Human is higher than average, you have respect and can easily pick on the Worms, Cats, and Dogs. While you still can be easily marked as Gai you can also be forgiven easily by Gods and you needn't worry about things like accidental double posting, by now you should now about the edit button. You rule over the Dogs, Cats, and Worms.
____________
Dragons are the rank before God. By this rank they aren't Gai at all (shouldn't be) and have learned they can do whatever they want, as long as they don't pick a fight with the Gods. By now they may have made friends with some Board Gods, and are probably on friendly terms. You rule the Humans, Dogs, Cats, and Worms.
____________
Board Gods are the highest supremes. They rule everybody else. They can make Gai comments without fear of mockery. They rule over you, you are their slaves. You can do nothing about it. Board Gods don't have any rules against them. They have no restrictions. Get used to it, Worms.
____________
The God rank is for Adam alone, he truly has no restrictions and can do many a thing other Gods can't do (edit/delete others messages, move messages, delete the whole fucking forum if he wants to). He rules over the other Board Gods. There is nothing you can do about it. He alone has power over the whole webpage.
____________

- - There are, of course, exceptions to these rules. Some n00bs are so incredibly cool, they are allowed a bit more freedom and power. And then there are those who become eternal Worms, because they just can't lose their Gai. - Noryndor - -

This is easily illustrated by a post of MerDeNoms':

Just Not Worth the Time
____________
This category doesn't revolve around the amount of days/months/years you've been around. Instead it depends on your actions. For instance, some members who are Just Not Worth Our Time are ilovedaniel and Ashley. They set terrible examples, so whatever you do, ignore them at all costs.

And as it seems to have caused a bit of turmoil within the forum, I'd like to note that everything you see above is a joke. It's for entertainment purposes only. So don't take it too seriously, okay? Thanks.

General Rules

Courtesy of rune

Please keep your Gai-ness to yourself.
Don't flaunt your religion, and/ or the fact that you think gay people are, well, gay.
Thou shalt not say a word against slash, or thou shalt be smitten most cruelly, but justly.
Don't act as though you know everything, because, well, you don't.
Respect the opinions and views of more established members, and they'll respect yours.... Who am I kidding? They won't, but they'll be less likely to jump down your throat about it.

Random Tips

First off, learn how to edit your posts. Double posting is bad. Sometimes it's all right to double post, just be sure both posts are relevant and people have had time to see the first one.

Editing posts is a very simple process. At the top of your posts, there is a button. It looks like this: All you do is click it, edit your post, and then you're done!

If you'd like to email another member, this is also a simple process. There is another button for this. It looks like this: And guess what? All you have to do is... Click it!

To see who is online, go to the main page of the forum and click "See who's online". Wow, wasn't that simple.

An important feature of the forum is the "nightly prunings". To keep the site from shutting itself down, Adam had to make threads in Random Noise delete themselves after five days. So if you're wondering where your post went, now you know.

If you'd like to post a question, be sure to look through old posts first, to make sure the question hasn't been asked a million times already. Posts debating the "HOTTNESS!!11@@" of Big Wolf characters are generally frowned upon. Also, if you'd like to ask many questions, please put them all in one thread. It makes things a lot easier on everyone else. Here is a list of posts that are usually made, which make most members angry and leads n00bs to flee in terror. These are the kind of posts you should avoid:

You see, these have all been asked before. If you'd like to know one of these things, just look through old posts. Same goes for questions about "The Bail".

If you'd like to see where you are on the Top Posters list, go here.

Downloading Episodes

There ARE downloadable episodes available. "Episode Trading" is a newly added section of the forums. Please do NOT request episodes specifically. Two websites have episodes hosted: DewKnight's site and the Green Day Network site. If the episode you want is not on one of those two sites, it simply does not exist within the realms of the internet.

Editing Your Profile/Avatar/Signature

To change your username, simply go to the main page of the forum and click on "Edit your profile". From there you may easily change your username. It is not recommended that you do this often, or people will get rather pissy with you for it.

From this page you may also change your password and email address. I won't waste the time explaining this, it's not that hard to figure out.

Avatars are a bit trickier, it must be said. But it really isn't too hard. Hit the "Browse" button and choose the picture you want. Pick the "Replace current photo" option. You may also remove your avatar completely by choosing the "Remove current photo" option. If you enter a thread in which you have posted and do not see your new avatar, just refresh the page.

Signatures are also easy. Just type what you want your signature to say in the larger box of the profile page. Simple enough, right? Just keep in mind, most people don't enjoy seeing signatures the size of novels, or even short stories. Pictures in signatures are also something you need to be careful about. Using many pictures, or large pictures is rather annoying. They take forever to load and likely aren't worth looking at, anyway. If you must have pictures, be sure to resize it to a decent size, and never have more than one or two pictures unless they are very, very small. It's best not to over-do things.

To ignore someone, just click the ignore link at the bottom of the profile page. Enter the username of the person you wish to ignore, then hit the button. Ta-da! You are now ignoring someone!

Short HTML Tutorial

Now, because I know you all will be lazy and not bother to check into HTML (if you don't already know it), I'm going to give you a bit of help here.

To post a picture, type

<img src="http://www.geocities.com/noryndor/picture%20URL"> For other people to see the picture, it must be uploaded to the internet. If you are trying to post a picture straight from your computer, only you will be able to see it. There are many sites that host pictures for you. Look for 'em.

When you post a website address to the forum, it will automatically become a link. However, if you'd like to put a link in your signature, try this:

<a href="http://www.bigwolfoncampus.org/">Big Wolf on Campus</a>

To change your fonts, use any of the following codes:
To change to color of your text, use

<font color="#000000">asdf</font> To change size use <font size="1">asdf</font> To center your text, use <center>asdf</center> To space out your signature, use asdf <br> asdf This will look like this:

asdf
asdf

Or you may skip a full line, by using this code:

asdf <p> asdf This will look like this:

asdf

asdf

For bold text, use

<b>asdf</b> And for italics, use <i>asdf</i> To resize a picture, which would be very important if you have a large picture you'd like to put in your signature, just tack a few things onto the basic image code. <img src="http://www.geocities.com/noryndor/asdf.jpg" width="width" height="height"> There are a number of other HTML tags you can use, but I doubt if you'll need to. I'm sure these will suffice.

There's also WolfCode. It's simpler than HTML, but you're probably better off using the HTML codes. To learn more about WolfCode, hit the link at the bottom of the text boxes when you post. Also, you will find the smiley key is located here.

More coming soon, but you may always find more information at the VERY FIRST BWOC newbie page, The Ultimate Newbie Guide.
