Norwich Union Cricket Club - Results for Week 12, Saturday 19 July 2008 NU First team Rained off Old Catton away. Elsewhere, Loddon thrashed St Andrews (44 all out), both remain in the relegation zone behind NU. NU Second team 167-4 (23 points) Beat Old Catton A 89-7 (4 Points) by 78 runs. The seconds claimed their second win in a row after a superb performance in the rain against Old Catton, the win pushing them away from the relegation zone. The game kicked off in beautiful sunshine with Stevey losing the toss and NU being put into bat. Titch and Dangerous Dale opened the batting in fine form, putting on a calm 35 or so off 11 overs. However the rain came down hard, and the teams were faced with an hour and a half break. Ever thoughtful, Steve called an early tea, where an array of cakes, chocolate mini-rolls and sandwiches brightened the spirits of both sides. To fit a game in the two captains agreed a 30 over match. With NU winning the toss this time around Titch and Dangerous strode into bat to start all over again. The openers looked solid again and put on another good opening stand. The loss of Dale however sent the team into crisis, with Santosh straight after playing his finest slog off a straight yorker to claim a duck. It was left to Ajit and Titch to steady the ship, putting on a superb partnership. Titchs fantastic timing, coupled with Ajits powerful strokeplay and gazelle-like running between the wickets took the score past the 100 mark. The crowd, satisfied with matters on the pitch launched into a game of Slip catch idol. Tom, in charge of the batting, displayed his full range of off side strokeplay; Toshy however stole the show to earn himself the slip fielding position for the second innings. Titch finally departed for 57 to a rapturous reception from the crowd, with Ajit departing soon after for 69. There was still time for Aggie to hit a quickfire 22, and with 167-4 on the board off the 30 overs, it looked a terrific score. After a couple overs of the Catton reply the rain came down again, after a short delay the teams were back out. With Harolds metronomic bowling, Spaxs scary pace bowling, and tight work in the field Catton were restricted for the first 15 overs. Harold finishing up with 8 overs, 1 wicket for ten to effectively seal the game. By the time Toshy and Steve entered the fray Catton were looking for runs, toshy particularly benefitting with three wickets whilst still keeping the score down. Easty followed suit, picking up a couple of wickets to earn another bowling point. Catton finished on 89-7 off their 30 overs, to earn NU a total of 23 points. Ajit 69 - Press 57. Santosh 3-24 - Easty 2-10 - Harold 1-10 Elsewhere, the only other match completed was relegation rivals New Buckenham defeating Ashmanhaugh. Colney were rained off and remain bottom on one win, NU still second bottom having claimed their second victory. NU Third team Rained off North Elmham B. (Reports of a fine catch from wicketkeeper-batsman Matt Davis have been confirmed) Elsewhere Not much down the bottom of the table, with Hales claiming the default win after Catton conceded. |
